I'm slightly late but happy 15th birthday to the revival of Doctor Who! For this event, I decided to make a tribute to one of the best written characters of my childhood. Recently, I've been rewatching Doctor Who and once I finished season 1, I was left longing for more of the 9th Doctor, one of the best incarnations to grace our televisions. Title: The Thirteen Doctors of Christmas

Warnings/Notes: This fic was written before Peter Capaldi was chosen for the role of the Twelfth Doctor, so the Twelfth and Thirteenth Doctors who make an appearance in this fic are entirely original.

Reasons for reccing: This fic is just utterly beautiful and genius. The characterization is absolutely phenomenal and the writer does a brilliant job of creating their personalities and voices. The dialogue sound exactly like what these characters would say (for the characters I’m familiar with anyway). And the Doctors who I am unfamiliar with (2-8) are written so strongly that with minimal background knowledge they are just so clearly and beautifully crafted. This is the type of fic that I could easily see being a published Doctor Who work and its written so well and has such a beautiful concept that I could see it as a TV Christmas special (if getting all the actors wasn’t so difficult lol). Every line in this fic is just incredible. It’s one of my all time favorite Doctor Who fics and certainly my favorite Christmas-themed Doctor Who fic. This fic is a masterpiece to put it simply and I have no hesitation when I say that.

Reasons for reccing: This is an absolute amazing photoshoot. The cosplayer looks remarkably similar to Jodie Whittaker (I’m assuming some editing was done to help highlight the resemblance) and the cosplayer does a fantastic job of exuding the personality of the Thirteenth Doctor. The photographer is really superb and I love their use of lighting and their editing because it creates this almost fairy tale ethereal aura for the Doctor. Really great!

Reasons for reccing: This is a really amazing graphic that I mistook for official at first glance. “Spyfall,” the premiere of series 12, is clearly referencing the spy thriller genre and the Doctor’s dialogue in the trailer “Doctor, The Doctor” is obviously calling back to James Bond. So this editor creating a James Bond-inspired poster for the Doctor stylized with dark thriller elements. It’s really fun and an incredible piece of editing.

Title: Why the 13th Doctor is more emotionally stable than her 4 predecessors (9 to 12) and why she’s the timeless child

I remember at the time people were really harping on that like because it did sound very ominous and I really liked it, we thought it was going to be a story arc. It didn’t end up being but I think it was very self-explanatory too - I think the Doctor is the timeless child, and they were inside her head seeing her, seeing who the Doctor is, and then the Doctor says “get out of my head” so I think that’s what it was, but I think the remnants also saw Gallifrey, just because of the reference to the Doctor as a child, and her still being a child, almost, searching and roaming the universe and yet probably internally a child longing for a family - and maybe that’s why she’s very eager about Graham, Yaz and Ryan and calling them “Fam” - specifically, an emphasis on family.

Reasons for reccing: This is an interesting meta analysis about the Thirteenth Doctor and how she differs from her predecessors in New Who. She's far more emotionally stable and doesn't have the same darkness and irritability that the other Doctors had. Thirteen has been "reborn" as she moves on from the trauma of the previous Doctors and has a bit of a child-like innocence to her. It's a nice character analysis of Thirteen and helps explain why she's so different from the previous Doctor's and how her character signifies a change with Chibnall moving away from the elements of the past Doctor.

He always cosplayed Ten and she was always Rose… but Ryan, unfortunately, passed too soon. Shortly thereafter, Jodie Whittaker was announced as Thirteen and Essay looks SO much like her. It was like Ryan was reaching out and saying “It’s okay. YOU’RE the Doctor now.” So when I saw the comic cover (originally drawn by Giorgia Sposito and Arianna Florean), I wanted to paint it as Ryan and Essay because it was like they were reaching across the time streams to find each other. The second painting is based on a photo by Bryan Humphrey. They may be my favorite couple I’ve never met. ^_^

--Rose calls the Eleventh Doctor and talks about how unfair she thinks it is to be abandoned in the parallel universe. (In this you can either assume Ten-Two doesn't exist or that he has died or left Rose.  He doesn't appear in this video, so you can imagine whatever scenario you wish). One day a Tardis materializes inside of the Eleveth [sic] Doctor’s Tardis. This is Rose in the Tardis she grew from the coral the Tenth Doctor left her.  They travel together and are having many adventures until River Song shows up. (For people who may wonder why Amy and Rory are no longer a part of the video, I imagine this took place during the time that the Pond’s were only traveling with the Doctor part-time). Rose finds out that the Doctor is married.  She is extremely upset and the Doctor asks if she is going to leave him, but she assures him that she never will. After this their relationship heats up more, and they get much more intimate. They continue with their adventures, and I left the video on a happy note :)--

Basically, this takes place after the Christmas special -- the Doctor decides to break the rules and visit his own timeline. Amy and Rory are off somewhere as part of their honeymoon let's say. So Eleven goes to the 'days' that he wishes he could relive with his beloved Rose. The ones he feels are the most important in their short time together.In the end he knows that he cannot meddle in the timeline but he watches (and remembers) those moments he'll never forget and knows that he'll never let go of them or his love for Rose.

The meta is a bit of a ramble and isn’t super in-depth but it brings up interesting ideas, such as the Master’s sense of self-importance and how that connects to a sort-of masculinity and how that relates Missy’s rejection of masculinity and embracement of femininity (ie. Time Lady). This is an older meta and the writer mentions how they might make a more in depth analysis of this subject, but sadly I couldn’t find it (Tumblr has a horrible search function) if it was ever written.
