merryghoul: Ninth doctor with screwdriver (Nine screwdriver)

Title: Dirt
Creator: jezebel
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 5281
Creator's Summary: "I do know practically everything, but who thinks, oh, we're going to find a long-lost holy relic to keep this civilization's timeline intact and what do you know, it's going to be buried in a dead planet's aphrodisiac potting soil?"
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor/Rose Tyler
Notes: Sex pollen fic but doesn't have any explicit sex in fic

Reasons for reccing: This is an amusing fic I rediscovered while sorting through my bookmarks. Rose and Nine encounter dirt that arouses them. The two fight through their lust to do the task they were hired to do. I love the tension between this fic's Nine and Rose and the fic's ending is well worth the payoff.

Title: The Scarf of Life
Creator: Spring
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 462 words
Creator's Summary: An origin story for the 4th Doctor's scarf.
Characters/Pairings: Nostradamus's Mother, the Scarf
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: We had a request for stories featuring the Doctor's scarf and I immediately remembered this one from ages ago and fished it out. It's a such an unusual and clever ficlet - with surprising depths - and it's all about the scarf and how it came to be.

Title (“Title” in bold): Rayla’s TARDIS

Creator (“Creator” in bold): [archiveofourown.org profile] TheBigCat [youtube.com profile] anadvora

Rating (“Rating” in bold): Teen and up Audiences

Word Count/Length/Size (“Word Count/Length/Size” in bold) Not!fic is 3,790 words; Not!vid is 4:40

Creator's Summary (“Creator’s summary” in bold): Not!fic: The Keeper has perma-locked entry Rayla's TARDIS for editing. (Reason: i've had enough of this. i thought time lords were supposed to be above fairy tales, anyway?)

Not!vid: "Rayla’s TARDIS" (also known as "Rayla and his TARDIS") is a traditional folk song and cautionary tale, catalogued as ballad 423 in the Pythian Index and number 2996 in the Mirraflex Folk Archive. More information can be found at its entry within the Matrix. Any melodic resemblance to the Earth ballad 'Johnny O'Braidesley' is, of course, entirely coincidental.

Pairings/Characters (“Pairings/Characters” in bold): Original Time Lords, Original TARDIS

Warnings/Notes (“Warnings/Notes” in bold): Death

Reasons for reccing (“Reasons for reccing” in bold): I’m submitting this for lurking_latinist’s “unconventional fanworks” request, along with the “fanvids” theme at [community profile] fancake. This is a recording of a Gallifreyan folk ballad that Kitty wrote, and a “Maxrixpedia” article about it. The article is extremely funny, especially the talk page, and the ballad itself is performed very well.

Word Count/Length/Size (“Word Count/Length/Size” in bold) Currently 75 episodes, typically 1-1.5 hours each
Creator's Summary (“Creator’s summary” in bold): The Game of Rassilon is one of those “actual-play” podcasts, except instead of playing D&D or Pathfinder we’re playing Doctor Who: The Roleplaying Game by Cubicle 7. Telling stories with a unique Doctor exploring time and space with a crew of unlikely companions, with an emphasis on great stories and, we hope, big laughs.
Pairings/Characters (“Pairings/Characters” in bold): Original Doctor, original companions (Travis Killian, Carrie Vu, and Lita), Literally Amelia Earhart, Original Romana
Warnings/Notes (“Warnings/Notes” in bold): Violence at about the same level as the show throughout, temporary major character death. A lot of warnings that I can think of only apply to a few serials so if you need/want additional warnings let me know and I’ll tell you.
Reasons for reccing (“Reasons for reccing” in bold): I’m submitting this for the “Other Doctors” theme and [personal profile] lurking_latinist ’s “unconventional fanworks” request. This is a really great podcast, it’s pretty silly at the beginning but becomes more serious and plotty as it goes on, though the jokes never stop entirely. All the players are great and bounce off each other well, and it’s obvious that they enjoy playing together. Season 4 started on June 1, so it’s a great time to get caught up.

Title: Terminarch
Creator[archiveofourown.org profile] RockyMountainRattlesnake
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 72,766 words
Creator's Summary: Endling: an individual living thing that is the last survivor of its species or subspecies and whose death consequently means the extinction of that species or subspecies.

At a zoo for the endlings of the universe, Team TARDIS find themselves tangled in a twisted web of atrocities that stretches back years. People are vanishing, the all-controlling AI is acting up...and the computer's sights are set squarely on the Doctor.

If they can't put a stop to the Terminarch corporation's evil machinations, Rose and the Doctor will be torn apart. Forever.

Characters: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness
Pairings: Ninth Doctor/Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: Episode-style, Imprisonment, Kidnapping

Reasons for reccing: This is a very good and well-paced fic. It has many interesting ideas and concepts, and was a very exciting read. The author has many onther Nine/Rose fics on their account, all of which are very good.

Title: and the lightning
Creator: Doctor Tam
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 547 words
Creator's Summary: During a visit to a far future, the Doctor reflects on how human his perspective has become.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: And just to finish, one short, introspective piece as the Doctor considers how much he's been changing of late. One of the many ficlets and drabbles out there that prove sometimes you can say everything that needs saying in hardly any words at all.

Title: One Long Night
Creator: Amy Wolf
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 1538 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor attempts to solve a problem of storage space. Complications ensue.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Victoria Waterfield
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly challenge, before it's over. This is sweet, funny, and a clever little origin story for one important part of the show's mythos. What's not to love?

I've been meaning to post some recs for the Second Doctor gen request for a while, so here are two now to make up for my delay, both of them fabulous historical longfic for the same TARDIS team.

Title: The Spartans
Creator: [personal profile] jjpor | JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 69,883 words
Creator's Summary: Greece, 480 BC: As the vast armies of the King of Kings prepare to battle the outnumbered defenders of the Hot Gates, the Doctor and his friends find themselves where they often find themselves at times like this – caught in the middle.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright
Warnings/Notes: Explicit violence.

Reasons for reccing: It's no secret that JJPOR is still one of my favourite Doctor Who writers and this may be my favourite of his stories. It's basically a full-on attempt at a 60s era historical, although going that little further (like a PDA or MA, save that JJPOR's stuff has far more heart and eventual happy endings) to allow for some of the historical reality. It's vividly written, excellently characterised, well-plotted out, and a real treat.

Title: Reciprocal Quandaries
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 30,765
Creator's Summary: Two, Ben, Polly and Jamie pause for a bit of restful holiday at the 1900 Paris Exposition - or so they wished. A 'historic' adventure for one of the Old School teams.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Talking of treats, this is also a long historical 'missing adventure' featuring the very same TARDIS team, but with a much lighter edge. It is a delightful runaround set during the Paris Exposition in 1900, complete with improbable doppelgangers and actual candy floss, and is heaps of fun. I only wish there were more of it!
