I'll be back later to update the monthly theme etc. but first and foremost - we made it! Congratulations and thank you to every comm member who took part - we have a giant recs list of fanworks with at least one to represent each year of Doctor Who's existence! *\o/* In some cases, we even have bonus recs!

So, your work done, feel free to sit down and celebrate 60 years by enjoying a selection of wonderful fanworks to showcase Doctor Who and its talented fandom over the years.

Reasons for reccing: For 1991, the year that saw the release of Spearhead From Space on VHS and the deaths of both Innes Lloyd and Gerry Davis, two of the people responsible for the Cybermen, a lovely piece that features Liz Shaw and Cybermen, or the after-effects of meeting them.

Eight runs into Liz and they both get a chance to discuss past trauma and lost friends - it's a thoughtful, excellently done vignette for the two of them - they make a great combination.

Time to salute all the actors whose work over 60 years has made DW into the legend that it is!

Reasons for reccing: For 1986 and the introduction of Melanie Bush, here's one of my favorite very recent pieces of Mel-and-Six-fic. Based on a longstanding crack theory ('Melanie Bush' could not sound more like 'Melody Pond had to come up with an alias quickly' if you tried!), this is both really moving and makes a surprising amount of continuity sense. It's a great exploration of Mel's character that thereby adds new layers to River's.

Reasons for reccing: For 2003, the brief glorious heyday of Richard E. Grant's Doctor (well, one of them), here's an existentially devastating Christmas story! The increasingly dark adventures the Doctor and Alison have been having in some version of the Time War make a gorgeous contrast with the stifling mundanity (if you're the Doctor)/reassuring normality (if you're Alison) of Alison's aunt's Christmas party, and then it goes just a little bit meta. This version of the Doctor is troubled, mercurial, witty, desperate; he cares too much to cope; it makes me wish they'd made more of the webcasts, except they wouldn't have been this story. This fic is hard for me to rec because everything I say about it just makes it sound depressing and strange. And it is depressing and strange. But in a good way. And the Doctor is really awkward at this Christmas party.

Reasons for reccing: Re-recommending this for 2021 in the anniversary challenge, as this fic is based on the 2021 New Year’s special. This is my favorite 13/Dhawan fic, and probably my fave Doctor/Master fic overall. It’s suspenseful and exciting and has gorgeous imagery. The Doctor and Master are very realistic and in-character. Quotes from “Darkness” by Lord Byron are in the story, and they’re woven in very well and help enhance it. The author also made two drawings that go along with the fic, and they’re both very nice. All in all, this is a FANTASTIC story.
