Title: We That Are Left

Creator: [livejournal.com profile] templeremus

Rating: PG

Word Count: 495

Creator's Summary: It's the autumn of 1913, and Martha waits for a battle she knows must come. Set prior to the events of Human Nature/The Family of Blood.

Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Jenny, John Smith

Warnings/Notes: some dark subject matter, era-typical attitudes to race and class. I'm reccing this for my "work" prompt on my bingo square.

Reasons for reccing: A great character piece of Martha Jones during this episode when she and the Doctor are hiding. She works as a maid, taking up this role and dealing with the circumstances and prejudices of this time period. I think this really deeply expresses Martha's feelings, but still keeping her in-character as strong and determined. A perfect little Martha Jones story.

Title: All Changes Big and Small
Creator: the_seventh_l
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 1116 words.
Creator's Summary: 'Looking in the mirror, Frobisher thought he looked pretty good, even without a beak.' Sometimes even a shape-shifter needs to stay the same. Slight spoilers for "The Doctor's Daughter" and the end of "Journey's End".
Characters/Pairings: Frobisher, Iris Wildthyme, Jenny (Doctor's Daughter).
Warnings/Notes: Do I warn for crack?

Reasons for reccing: The last rec was a bit bleak, so have something more cheerful, because, of course, sometimes AUs can be pure crack that somehow wind up just that little too plausible for comfort, like this gem, with Six's shape-shifting penguin companion Frobisher in search of a new look that provides an unexpected origin story for a certain other major character...

Title: More Than an Echo
Creator: samfeasor
Rating:
All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: Series of 17 stories, lengths 420 to 1259 words
Creator's Summary: The continuing adventures of the Doctor's daughter. A creature of first experiences, she is growing and learning exponentially, traveling the universe in the year 6012 (New Byzantine Calendar) and trying to lead the kind of life that would make her father proud: an exemplary one. These stories take place, to the best of my ability, in "chronological" order, as Jenny ages and learns from day to day.
Characters/Pairings: Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter)
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:
Continuing my last-minute dash at my seasonal challenge, "Companions that Never Were." Jenny is an unusual "othered" character, an adult whose life is only days long and is naive about most aspects of human existence. This series of vignettes explores that otherness as she starts to explore the universe and learn more about herself, her parents, and life. The first story is set a few days after her birth, the last two years and forty-six days into her life.

Title: Five Times Jenny Met One of the Doctor's Companions
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Netgirl_y2k
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1151 words
Creator's Summary: Jenny saves some civilisations, does a lot of running and meets some of the Doctor's old friends.
Characters/Pairings: Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter), Mel Bush, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana II, Tegan Jovanka, Mickey Smith.

Reasons for reccing: I love the character of Jenny even if The Doctor's Daughter has its flaws as an episode, and I love cross-era stories where different companions and guest stars meet one another, and this was a lovely example of both. The story has a great, cheerful, fresh Jenny voice, and the various companions she meets are their delightful selves. I also love their reactions to her background, and extra points for Romana II teaching her how to Time-Lord in a more thought-out fashion.

Both for my "female-centric" challenge claim, and also fitting the monthly theme of Tenth Doctor era / guest characters.
