I also love its portrayal of Bill, and how her friendship helps the Doctor deal with the time loop.

Reasons for reccing: I've watched quite a few of the goodbye vids produced in the wake of Twelve's departure. This one slipped by me until tonight, and I was touched by this version of the Doctor's story. The vidder takes a somewhat different slant on his journey of self-discovery, employing quotes and shots familiar from other vids but also using unexpected intercuts and expressions that, among other things, highlight the subtlety and vulnerability of Peter Capaldi's face. The portrait Capaldi created of the Doctor is an extraordinary achievement, IMO, and Sharon Studio assembles a coherent narrative to show us who Twelve is or tries to be. The vid was made before "Twice Upon a Time" aired, which is a shame; it would have reinforced the theme, but never mind. Sharon Studio's love for this Doctor shines through.

If you need some cheering up, this fic is perfect for it. Great pacing, tone, and humor will have you grinning ear to ear.

The vid itself is surprisingly upbeat considering it's Twelve's farewell season, which is a nice contrast to the many tributes that follow him to the bitter end. I love these three rascals, their playfulness and care for one another. It's a joyful little celebration of Doctor and companion (and Doctor's minder) laughing and hugging and getting into trouble, with all the tragedy left for another day.

Reasons for reccing: This fic starts a series of Bill Potts stories written by Selenay as S10 was airing; although the individual stories in the series stand very well on their own. Anyway, I love all the stories in the series, but the first one is a good one to start with, and it's such a lovely, slightly wistful story of the coming of age of Bill Potts and her romantic entanglements, and also explains how Bill ended up working in the university canteen. And contains lots of Bill kissing girls, which is always a plus. The narrative voice of Bill is perfect, although the series had only started airing when this was written.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim in the seasonal challenge. Also, the monthly theme of romance.

Reasons for reccing: It's one of the loveliest Bill/Heather fics I've read, or possibly the loveliest, giving us some of the future relationship and adventures between Bill and Heather that I wish the canon had spent more time on, too. This story goes further than any in exploring their post-canon water-nature, in a creative and delightful manner, as well as how they might go on about returning to a more familiar existence. Little nods to other parts of Doctor Who canon, gorgeous writing, and amazing descriptions of the universe amounting to what one commenter called "astrophysics porn". It was written for this year's Femslash Exchange and posted a few weeks ago, so it fits the monthly theme of "new".

Reasons for reccing: When I looked at the word count for this story, I was surprised it was not longer. Because its not even 2000 words cover such a scale--of time, of life, of emotion and growth--that it feels like an epic. The old Doctor has died a lot in canon, leaving us with someone new who isn't exactly sure about who they are, aside from that stalwart set of values that maintain hope in (as Craig Ferguson so aptly put it) the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism. The Doctor always entrusts this to his successors--it's just in this case, Missy is not re-learning who she always was, but in the travels of a newly gifted life, understanding how to become someone entirely new herself, and yet as ancient as the Doctor has always been. Poignant, bittersweet, sad, and brilliant. Don't miss it.

Reasons for reccing: Bill loves music. She loves the math of it, the structure and the beauty; the Doctor talks about math like it was a living thing, and every time he does it feels like magic. Everything is interconnected for the Doctor – music and math and physics and quantum mechanics and so much more. She can’t quite grasp the full scope of it, not yet, no matter how many papers he sets her or how many soaring explanations he gives, but every tutorial is fascinating. She wants more, always more.

This short triptych is so well crafted, reading it even feels like we are joining the characters in an intimate dance. The first two parts are like mirror images that embody the interconnected-ness that the author speaks about above, and the last one is a reunion brimming with hope and joy and freedom and the promise of more, always more.
