auroracloud: (Tardis in flight)
[personal profile] auroracloud posting in [community profile] tardis_library
All right, I'm finally trying to get some rec-bingoing done. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get started, but hey, there's still time for a bingo line before the end of the month!

I'm starting with several recs for the "Robots/Androids/AI" square of my bingo card. I'm making the assumption that the TARDIS counts as an AI, because I love TARDIS centric fics, TARDIS POV, treating the TARDIS as a character and even shipping (...timeshipping?) the TARDIS. In various exchanges over the past year, I've been gifted with three wonderful fics from TARDIS point of view, and because I can't pick only one of them, I'm reccing all three.

Title: Five Moments Shared
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Merfilly
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1057 words
Creator's Summary: Five moments the Tardis shared with her Thief.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (incarnations not specified, but it's generally New Who), the Doctor's TARDIS, Jack Harkness. Mostly gen about the Doctor and the TARDIS, but with slight implied Doctor/Jack.
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It was a gift for me in the Turingfest AI/robots/etc. exchange, and an utterly lovely little fic about the Doctor and the TARDIS's companionship from her point of view, through scattered moments of their times together. While it's a "five things" fic, it doesn't feel like adhering to a formula; the Doctor and the TARDIS's relationship and especially the TARDIS POV makes it feel just right to show them through a handful of unconnected scenes out of chronological order. It's well-written, touching, and hopeful. Also, if you're not convinced yet, there's a space puppy.

Title: all the moments of eternity
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] triplesalto
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1684 words
Creator's Summary: A Time Lord wasn't the only thing the TARDIS stole.
Characters/Pairings: Bill Potts, the Doctor's Tardis; Bill Potts/The Doctor's TARDIS
Notes: Canon divergence AU for Bill's ending in The Doctor Falls

Reasons for reccing: I'm secretly really delighted by the idea of shipping the TARDIS (er, pairing the TARDIS? it can get confusing to talk about shipping a ship), and when Bill declared herself in love in 'Thin Ice' I was all "I want to see fic about this". Happily, in last year's Femslash exchange, I was gifted this beautifully written little gem from the TARDIS POV, touching on her relationship with the Doctor and some of his other companions, but then focusing on Bill and how the TARDIS feels about her. It's an alternate story where the TARDIS comes in to save Bill at the end, and they live happily ever after. I find the characterizations of both Bill and the TARDIS entirely delightful.

Title: Repair Jobs (Here and Now Remix)
Creator: [personal profile] trobadora / [archiveofourown.org profile] Trobadora
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1790 words
Creator's Summary: The TARDIS always goes where she needs to be. - Set during Empress of Mars
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor's TARDIS, Missy; background Ninth Doctor/Jack Harkness
Notes: Written as a part of Missy this Fic: the Gomez!Master Remix, a tiny remix fest last year where the point was to remix a fic with Missy. I loved this fic so much I'd actually managed to forget, until I looked at it again to rec it here, that it was actually a remix of my own fic, but lines from the original fic form only a small part of the story.

Reasons for reccing: To start with, I adore pretty much everything Trobadora writes. This story is an intriguing look at the question that Series 10 never answered: just how did Missy end up flying the TARDIS at the end of Empress of Mars? Especially considering that the last time the Master had the TARDIS, he turned her into a paradox machine and basically tried to destroy the world with her - not the best starting point.

The TARDIS POV is marvelously executed, just strange enough to feel appropriate for a sentient timeship, but not so strange you can't read it, which could also be an issue. Missy's characterization, her dialogue and the development of their relationship are excellent, and the story uses a fragment of memory of an exchange between the Ninth Doctor and Jack to spur on that relationship. It's also a great, poignant exploration of how much the Master has changed and developed as Missy, especially by this point on the series.
