Title: Kiss Me | A Doctor Who fanvid
Creator: [youtube.com profile] thethirdromana
Rating: Not rated
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:15
Creator's Summary: A celebration of kisses in Doctor Who. Mostly new Who (because that's where all the kissing happens) but with a sprinkling of classic Who too.
Characters/Pairings: Way too many to list - it's most of the Doctors and companions
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: For the kissing/hugging square on my bingo card. This is a fun vid of not just the kisses (because then it would be really short), but also the friendship (and engagement in the First Doctor's case).

Title: The Worst Doctor Who Story Ever
Creator:  Astrid
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size:  608
Creator's Summary: For April Fools Day, I present something I wrote last year as a parody of all the bad Doctor Who fics (well, bad fics in general). I'm very sorry about this, I really am.

Characters/Pairings:  Ace McShane, Adric, Leela, Mel Bush, Peri Brown, Romana II, The Doctor (8th), The Doctor (Other), The Master (Other), The Rani, The Silurians, The Valeyard, The Yeti
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Yes, that's the actual title.   It's a parody of bad fic:  the funniest and most accurate parody I think I've ever read.   I honestly don't know how much I can say here without spoiling it.  But we all have come across fic like this at some point.

Creator: Pendragon
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 3612
Creator's Summary: A little panda bear toy belonging to Steven Taylor goes on a long journey.
Characters/Pairings:  Dodo Chaplet, Steven Taylor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Jamie McCrimmon, The Doctor (2nd), Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Herriot, Jo Grant, Mike Yates, Sergeant Benton, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan Jovanka, The Doctor (5th), Mel Bush, The Doctor (6th), Ace McShane, Martha Jones
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: For the Road trip/voyage box on my Rec Bingo card.  This story shows the voyages of one little bear.  Hi-Fi is a pretty overlooked character, but here he goes through so much and it's wonderful.  How the other companions view the bear feels in character.

Creator's Summary: After the Big Finish "Five Companions" Audio, the Doctor has to see his friends back to their proper places and times. Saying goodbye to one of them is more pleasant than expected, and more painful than the Doctor lets on.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Nyssa of Traken,  Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright,  cameos by Polly Wright, Sara Kingdom, and Steven Taylor
Warnings/Notes: Sexual content ,  WAFF (warm and fuzzy feeling).  (Might want to listen to or find a summary of the aforementioned audio if you want context, but there's not much spoiler content)

Reasons for reccing: (Wait, have I not rec'd this yet? Wow)  For the Romance box on Rec Bingo.  This is a beautifully done work.  You can hear everyone's voices and all the little details are incredible.  It really shows the Doctor and Nyssa's bond.

Word Count/Length/Size: 1827
Creator's Summary: The Tenth Doctor discovers that his song isn't ending: it's just leaving to join in a greater melody, above and beyond death itself. Oneshot of various pairings and much joy.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Donna Noble, Grace Holloway, Jamie McCrimmon, Jo Grant, Peri Brown, River Song, Romana II, Rose Tyler, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (11th), The Doctor (1st), The Doctor (2nd), The Doctor (3rd), The Doctor (4th), The Doctor (5th), The Doct
Warnings/Notes: None (though this is a sort-of Crossover with Young Wizards by Diane Duane)

Reasons for reccing: I recently remembered this fic, and reread it.  And it is one of the most stunning, beautiful things.  Everything is very vivid and detailed and a nice ending for Ten. With a bunch of little cameos.

Word Count/Length/Size: 2,035 words
Creator's Summary:

Alone and afraid, Clara and the TARDIS share the most precious memory in all of time and space.

Meanwhile, Theta Sigma is kind of a dick.

Characters/Pairings: Doctor/TARDIS; various Doctors, Clara Oswald, Susan Foreman
Warnings/Notes: author tags "Xenophobia"; author's tags also include "Canon Backstory, All Three of Them! All at Once!" and "Two and Jamie Show Up For About Three Seconds It's a Thing"

Reasons for reccing: For Doctor/TARDIS in the Claim a Ship Seasonal Challenge.

Clara and the TARDIS are arguing and in danger, and the ship tries to communicate by sharing some of her memories. Most importantly, how she got herself stolen. The younger First Doctor and Susan are very well portrayed--I especially love the Doctor's combination of awe and panic about bonding with his ship--and Clara's perspective (not knowing what she's seeing, but plenty of opinions) is a really interesting way to approach it.

Title: Remembrance
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] BiJane
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 3415 words
Creator's Summary:

The TARDIS on the Doctor.

Stitch it together. Weave a narrative from all the moments. That happened before that, which would have prevented that… It’s not simultaneous, not to them.

Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (multiple regenerations)/The Doctor's TARDIS, mentioned Romana and River Song
Warnings/Notes: (none)

Reasons for reccing: For the Claim a Ship challenge. This is a narrative of the Doctor's relationship with his TARDIS told from the TARDIS's perspective, and it's splendidly nonlinear, using the idea that the TARDIS experiences all her adventures with the Doctor simultaneously. It tells her perspective on various stories from Classic and New Who, synthesizing them into a big arc of their journey together, and it does some really fun things with tenses and nonlinear storytelling.

Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 7514
Creator's Summary: It is a fact universally acknowledged that any beings splintered in time will inevitably run into each other. No law says it has to end well, though…
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald (splinter)/ Scaroth (splinter),   mentions of other characters
Warnings/Notes:  Copying the actual notes: " Warnings for inevitable Clara splinter death and general fake relationship dodginess, although no tentacle pr0n, sadly/thankfully (delete as applicable). I'm sure someone else on the internet will tackle that one eventually, there's a rule..."

Reasons for reccing: Bonus rec for 1979 , when City of Death aired.  This is a fantastic premise. Ever thought about the fact that Clara wasn't the only who got turned into shards? Ever wanted to see a Clara shard in a Gothic style setting? :)  Then here you are.  I love all the little details, and definitely read the coda at the end.

Characters/Pairings: All Doctors and companions to 2019.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Happy 60th, Doctor Who! A multi-era vid and a bonus rec for 1963, this is a very simple idea and seems to be a bit of a vidding meme (other shows' credits to the score from Endgame) but it's really lovely and this one, which goes all the way from 1963 to 2019 (and back again) must have taken some doing. Time to salute all the actors whose work over 60 years has made DW into the legend that it is!

Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor/Mel Bush, Seventh Doctor/Mel Bush, River Song (as Mel)
Warnings/Notes:

Reasons for reccing: For 1986 and the introduction of Melanie Bush, here's one of my favorite very recent pieces of Mel-and-Six-fic. Based on a longstanding crack theory ('Melanie Bush' could not sound more like 'Melody Pond had to come up with an alias quickly' if you tried!), this is both really moving and makes a surprising amount of continuity sense. It's a great exploration of Mel's character that thereby adds new layers to River's.

Also for the Multi-Era theme!

Characters/Pairings: Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Doris Lethbridge-Stewart, Third Doctor, Fourth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: The Brigadier, retired and just returned from a holiday, finds a lot of messages from the Doctor on his answering machine. This was written for the "Unsent Letters" exchange in 2022 and the concept is just great, super well executed, and so much fun to read. Lovely and hilarious.

(It is set sometime after the Seventh Doctor episode "Battlefield" - from the Brigadier's point of view, anyway! - which means it technically takes place in 1989, BUT, since that year is already covered, I'm submitting it for 1968, the year when one Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart first appeared. Also fits this month's multi-era theme!)

Title: Emergency Powers
Creator: Pete Galey
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 74,123 words
Creator's Summary: Following his seventh regeneration, the Doctor's previous persona finds himself in the mental realm where his six predecessors live. Soon, the discovery of a body sows the seeds of suspicion and mistrust - with grave consequences for the world outside.
Characters/Pairings: The versions of One through Seven that live inside Eight's mind (Seven is the main character); Eight and Sam
Warnings/Notes: I was jarred by one moment in which a dark appearance is associated with evil in the context of a folkloric devil figure. Unrelatedly, if you're a Third Doctor fan, you may feel he's not really in character in this.

Reasons for reccing: It's a twisty, adventurous, novel-length plot that really makes use of several classic versions of the Doctor, each as a character in his own right--especially Seven and Four and one other whose form of intervention in the plot is a spoiler. The worldbuilding of the mindscape in which the ex-Doctors dwell is fascinating--it feels Gallifreyan and appropriately weird without vanishing up itself--especially in the context of The Power of the Doctor (despite this being written in 2009). It's fun to spot all the references, but the story is far more than just a vehicle for references--it explores what makes the Doctor the Doctor. Angsty, funny, uplifting? I found it uplifting.

Title: Regeneration
Creator: Andriy Griffin
Rating: PG
Word Count/Length/Size: 4.48 mins
Creator's Summary: This October sees the next great change in Doctor Who, so this is to remember all the times we've said a tearful farewell to our beloved Doctors. In tribute to all the amazing people who've worked on this show on & off for the last 60 years, and in memory to Bill, Pat and Jon, the three who started it all. Hope you enjoy.
Characters/Pairings: Doctors 1-13, plus various other companions and villains.
Warnings/Notes: Regeneration stories, so (temporary) death etc, some guns & gunfire.

Reasons for reccing: It's Doctor Who's anniversary - 59 years old today! So I had to rec a multi-Doctor vid, and this one fitted the bill perfectly. It focuses on the goodbyes (and hellos) of regeneration stories over the decades, featuring all the Doctors and a good many companions and adversaries (especially those in the Regeneration episodes), and at the end brings us right up to date with Thirteen. And isn't one of the greatest strengths of this old show of ours, the notion of regeneration - the ability to continually change and grow that's let it carry on for decades, and even regenerate itself after what looked like the end? This is a beautiful exploration of that, in loss and grief - and the joy of renewal.

Happy birthday, Doctor Who! ♥

Creator's Summary: The TARDIS is traversing a dangerous region of space-time, but the Doctor assures Ace they're perfectly safe. Instead they go exploring deep in the heart of the TARDIS only to encounter the most unexpected pair, a pretty Northern schoolteacher and her best friend, a man with the angriest eyebrows Ace has ever seen...

The Doctor is having a very bad day. Both of him.

Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane, Twelfth Doctor, Clara Oswald
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A really delightful multi-Doctor story: great voices for everyone, wonderful character moments, and some fun TARDIS lore too. I feel like the character list pretty much sells itself, and the fic delivers! I especially loved Ace meeting Twelve, and Ace and Clara are also a very interesting pair. And of course, Seven and Twelve bite each other's heads off in the Doctor's own inimitable fashions.

Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald/Hallan (Gallifrey), the Doctor
Warnings/Notes: splinter-typical character death; minor Gallifrey spoilers

Reasons for reccing:

Well, if that ship tag hasn't got you intrigued, I don't know what to say. An in-depth knowledge of Gallifrey canon isn't required for this, though--it's more about the idea of Clara's Time Lady splinter, the impact she has on the timelines, and the circular possibility of her life reaching forward to affect original-Clara and the Doctor by way of poor Hallan. It's melancholy but also hopeful. And genuinely not cracky, just a bit... unlikely.

This qualifies for the Claim a Character seasonal challenge (Clara).

Characters/Pairings: Eleven/Clara, Twelve/Clara, Martha, Osgood
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I followed this as a WIP and it was a wonderful ride! It's a really fun twist on the chameleon arch trope, and in addition to the shippiness (which is very sweet, especially if you're into ironically complicated one-sided pining), there's a surprising amount of action and a lot of really fun teamwork with Clara, Martha, and Osgood. What's the point of time travel if you can't get into love triangles with your future self and introduce your most awesome friends to each other??

Reasons for reccing: Ace is all grown up and is undoubtedly the hero of this story. I love how she takes charge and deals with all of the dangers and misunderstandings along the way.
