For the alien creatures/magical beasts square on my bingo card

Title: Wishing on a Peppermint Star
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 4954 words
Creator's Summary: A little Christmastide tale for Three, Jo, Benton and Yates. A small, lost alien is somewhere amid the holiday shoppers, but we mustn't let that stop the children from seeing Santa. Ho ho!
Characters/Pairings: Third Doctor, Jo Grant, John Benton, Mike Yates
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It involves the Doctor playing Father Christmas, which goes exactly as you'd expect. And UNIT playing various other people involved with a Santa's grotto, to amusing effect. And it features a cute alien.

I realised I'd been shamefully slow in doing any recs for my characters for the current challenge, so here's one:

Title: Closet Romance
Creator: Primsong
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 214 words
Creator's Summary: It wasn't a lift, it was a broom closet. Thankfully, he was not alone.
Characters/Pairings: Kamelion/Other
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's short, sweet, well-written - and very funny, as Kamelion stumbles upon true love in the unlikeliest place.

Title: The Benefits of Being Monochromatic
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 19,558 words
Creator's Summary: One and Ian set out to explore, and of course the girls must follow - but where do they go from there? And does it matter how you're dressed? A gen adventure on a classic pattern.
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Susan, Ian, Barbara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's a lot like a classic adventure, with the team being split up and the Doctor solving a mystery. It's a really interesting alien planet and alien creatures with some amusing misunderstandings.

Title: The Giraffe Convolution of Doom
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 6192 words
Creator's Summary: There are vampire giraffes at the London Zoo. The Doctor really ought to do something about that, seeing as he's been there before.
Characters/Pairings: Rani Chandra, Evelyn Smythe, Frobisher, Sarah Jane Smith, Jamie McCrimmon, Martha Jones, Ace McShane, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor, Second Doctor, Fourth Doctor, The Meddling Monk, Eleventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Because it's delightfully silly. It's about vampire giraffes, includes Frobisher in the penguin enclosure in the zoo and Ace unable to remember his species name properly. The Sixth Doctor being his imperious self and Evelyn having to keep him in check. And a whole lot of characters and silliness.

I'd been planning to rec this for the letter "U" anyway - UNIT counts as a character, doesn't it? - and now it also fits the monthly theme, because it has quite a bit of the Brig in it!

Title: The Annual UNIT Picnic
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 3515 words
Creator's Summary: The Brigadier and UNIT enjoy their annual summer picnic in spite of the Doctor, who is of course not really responsible for what happens. Third Doctor and Jo Grant, also featuring Yates and Benton.
Characters/Pairings: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Mike Yates, John Benton, Third Doctor, Jo Grant, lots of unnamed UNIT soldiers
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is completely hilarious. The annual UNIT picnic does not go as planned (or maybe it does?) and the fact that the Doctor "improved" the provisions ends up being the least of the Brig's problems. The story is well written and paints a lot of very funny images that made me laugh out loud, which is much appreciated these days.

I've been meaning to post some recs for the Second Doctor gen request for a while, so here are two now to make up for my delay, both of them fabulous historical longfic for the same TARDIS team.

Title: The Spartans
Creator: [personal profile] jjpor | JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 69,883 words
Creator's Summary: Greece, 480 BC: As the vast armies of the King of Kings prepare to battle the outnumbered defenders of the Hot Gates, the Doctor and his friends find themselves where they often find themselves at times like this – caught in the middle.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright
Warnings/Notes: Explicit violence.

Reasons for reccing: It's no secret that JJPOR is still one of my favourite Doctor Who writers and this may be my favourite of his stories. It's basically a full-on attempt at a 60s era historical, although going that little further (like a PDA or MA, save that JJPOR's stuff has far more heart and eventual happy endings) to allow for some of the historical reality. It's vividly written, excellently characterised, well-plotted out, and a real treat.

Title: Reciprocal Quandaries
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 30,765
Creator's Summary: Two, Ben, Polly and Jamie pause for a bit of restful holiday at the 1900 Paris Exposition - or so they wished. A 'historic' adventure for one of the Old School teams.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Talking of treats, this is also a long historical 'missing adventure' featuring the very same TARDIS team, but with a much lighter edge. It is a delightful runaround set during the Paris Exposition in 1900, complete with improbable doppelgangers and actual candy floss, and is heaps of fun. I only wish there were more of it!
