Title: A Very Divisive Colour
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Charamei
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 2396
Creator's Summary: AU: Time Lords rule the universe and Daleks are freedom fighters. Dalek Freda gets stuck babysitting Davros' pet renegade Time Lord, the Doctor, and before she knows it he's saved her life and uncovered her greatest secret.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Original Dalek Character
Warnings/Notes: None.
Reasons for reccing: This is such a fun and unexpectedly sweet fic about an alternate universe where Time Lords are the universal conquerors and the Daleks are the good guys, but the Doctor's still the Doctor and wants to help in whatever way he can. I love how Eight manages to keep his compassion and optimism even in this darker AU. And Freda the Dalek is such a fun character and I would read a million different fics about her and the Doctor's adventures right now.

Note: This is my first rec for the seasonal challenge "Character Surprise" for the Eighth Doctor.

Title: Crystal, Fuse, and Mask
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Heimeldat
Rating: Teen and up
Word Count/Length/Size: 21675
Creator's Summary: The Doctor and Ace stumble into a secret auction and accidentally end up on the list of talent for hire. Next thing they know, they've been hired as an explosives expert and a psychic manipulator, and their new employer is in a great hurry to launch them into their criminal career.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: Canon-typical violence, mind control
Reasons for reccing: This is a very fun adventure fic, featuring a clever plot, some great hurt/comfort moments, and Seven being very scary when Ace is hurt. As per usual, the Doctor and Ace have gotten into some trouble have to work together and trust each other to get out of it. This fic explores their relationship and their trust for each other, while also incorporating a lot of fun undercover tropes. Plus an interesting exploration of the Doctor’s use of mental manipulation in particular.

Note: This was a wonderful giftfic inspired by my prompts for this year's Gen Freeform Exchange. This is also my seventh rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Title: A Little Fun Detour
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] JustMcShane
Rating: Teen and up
Word Count/Length/Size: 3569
Creator's Summary: The Suffering Game has two new contestants. It may never let them go.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: Significant but nongraphic violence, major character death.
Reasons for reccing: This is a fantastic and heartbreaking story with some very poignant character moments for Seven and Ace. Like the description implies, there is a lot of angst and lots of suffering for in store for Ace and the Doctor in this fic. This story is a crossover with The Adventure Zone: Balance, the first campaign of the The Adventure Zone, a D&D podcast. However, in my opinion it can be enjoyed canonblind, as the Doctor and Ace are also figuring out how things work as they go along and you don't really need to know all the backstory to understand this story.

This is my sixth rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Title: Les Fleurs Du Mal
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] JustMcShane
Rating: Mature
Word Count/Length/Size: 63784
Creator's Summary: An unexpected detour leads to the Doctor and Ace teaming up with the FBI to investigate a series of disturbingly specific floral-themed murders. But with Ace's increasingly strange dreams, a hyper-empathetic consultant who can't seem to empathize quite so well any more, and one Doctor Hannibal Lecter in the mix, the murders may be the least of their problems...
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor, Hannibal Lecter, Will Graham, Beverly Katz
Warnings/Notes: Graphic depictions of violence, body horror, serial murder and cannibalism.
Reasons for reccing: I loved the depiction of Seven and Ace's relationship and Ace is an adult in this fic and her characterization is such a natural progression from where we leave her in Season 26. This fic has some absolutely fantastic Seven & Ace characterization, great drama, some wonderful protective Seven moments, as well as some really good hurt/comfort moments.

This fic is a crossover with the recent Hannibal TV show, but I was able to enjoy it and my only experience with the show was what my mutuals on Tumblr post about it. As long as you're familiar with the basic premise of the show, you should be fine. It is fascinating to see how the Doctor and Ace react to being thrown into a much darker universe than the one we normally see them in.

This is my fifth rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Title: one plus six
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] JustMcShane
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5271
Creator's Summary: For the first half hour of wandering through the forest outside the biodome, everything was fine – despite the fact that they were, of course, very very lost. And then it wasn’t.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Thomas "Hex" Schofield, Seventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.
Reasons for reccing: This is such a sweet and lovely hurt/comfort fic. I love how Seven cares for his friends, and his friends care for him in return. There are so many sweet and funny moments and, overall, this fic just wonderfully captures the relationship between Ace, Hex and Seven.

This is my fourth rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge and my first rec for this month's theme challenge, "Companions."

Title: flight log #344
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] TheBigCat
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 2606
Creator's Summary: You think, they’re crazy, oh, they’re crazy, everything about this is crazy - but still you keep on flying.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor, Original Character
Warnings/Notes: None.
Reasons for reccing: This is an absolutely fantastic outsider perspective on Ace and the Doctor. I love seeing a relatively "normal" member of an alien society's perspective on them and what they get up to. It has a lot of really sweet moments and fascinating observations on Seven and his relationship with Ace.

This wonderful fic was gifted to me as part of the Chocolate Box Exchange this year. It is also is my third rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Title: Dragons of the Mind
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] lyricwritesprose
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 23658
Creator's Summary: In a dark and unfamiliar landscape, Ace struggles to save people while trying to figure out whether she's being played—and by whom.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Eleventh Doctor, Original Characters
Warnings/Notes: Mental manipulation, psychological horror, references to past abuse, canon-typical minor character death.
Reasons for reccing: Ace is all grown up and is undoubtedly the hero of this story. I love how she takes charge and deals with all of the dangers and misunderstandings along the way. The Eleventh Doctor is also perfectly characterized, and has a lot of interesting similarities and differences to the Doctor Ace knows.

This is my second rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Title: bury me here under the sweet grass
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] TheseusInTheMaze
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 4453
Creator's Summary: ”If you let me keep it," Ace said, "I could leave at any time, y'know."

"You could leave even if I had it," the Doctor pointed out.

Ace scoffed. "And leave behind my skin?"

"Anyone can leave anything behind, if they need to," said the Doctor, and there was something very sad in his voice.

Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Seventh Doctor, Bernice Summerfield
Warnings/Notes: References to past abuse in Ace's childhood.
Reasons for reccing: This is such a well-characterized and poignant depiction of Ace’s life and her relationship with the Doctor, as well as a great combination of fantasy and sci-fi elements. Selkie!Ace fit surprisingly well for her character.

This is my first rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.
