Reasons for reccing: Happy Doctor Who Day!! * takes a broom, tries to squeeze in one more rec* For 2019 ( When Resolution aired).  So, if you've seen the episode, you are probably aware of the UNIT mention. Or what is said to have happened to it.   This fic is wonderful and captures the characters' voices well.  What a great idea and these three are a good team.

Title: The Haunted Bus Route
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] timelostdoctor
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5,635 words
Creator's Summary: Graham's new friend disappears. So does Ryan's. All on the same day.
The same day a curious blond woman shows up with all sorts of gadgets Graham has never seen before.

Characters/Pairings: Graham O'Brien, Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Dan Lewis, Ryan Sinclair, Jack Harkness; Graham/Dan and Yaz/Thirteen implied at the end, but it's not the focus of the fic
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is a lovely alternate first meeting fic, in which Graham is still a bus driver and meets the Doctor on one of his routes, while she is looking for ghosts. Or "ghosts"? This was a fascinating read and I love its Graham POV with his take on everyone else, and the way it keeps everyone in character despite the different circumstances.

Reasons for reccing: I adore the art style of this piece - it's basically just the gang standing in a forest with a lovely autumnal colour palette, but the intricate details are amazing: the way the forest frames them and feels alive around them, all the flowers and branches and birds, and the shadows in the distance. Very cool.

Rating (“Rating” in bold): Teen and up Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size (“ Word Count/Length/Size” in bold): 102,626 words
Creator's Summary (“Creator’s summary” in bold): People are dying throughout time. And the Doctor has abandoned her companions.

Back in Sheffield, Yaz, Ryan, and Graham wait, watching the increasingly desperate news on the TV and slowly losing hope. It’s been three months since the Doctor left them—to die, it seems.

At the end of the universe, Clara Oswald travels to Gallifrey to beg the Time Lords for one simple request: we need your help. The universe is dying.

One dimension removed, Rose Tyler hacks at the universe walls, risking her entire world in an attempt to break through—not that it matters, because her world is already dead.
Pairings (“Pairings” in bold): Thirteenth Doctor & Yasmin Khan, Thirteenth Doctor & Clara Oswin Oswald, Thirteenth Doctor & Rose Tyler, Thirteenth Doctor & Ryan Sinclair, Thirteenth Doctor & Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair & Rose Tyler, Yasmin Khan & Clara Oswin Oswald
Characters (“Characters” in bold):Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Clara Oswin Oswald, Rose Tyler, Ryan Sinclair, Graham O'Brien, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Petronella Osgood, Ashildr | Lady Me, River Song
Warnings/Notes (“Warnings/Notes” in bold): To quote the author, “Okay, so when I wrote this fic last summer, I did not foresee there there would be an ACTUAL (“actual” in caps) pandemic happening at this point.” Therefore, expect illness, death (not of main characters), etc is present. There is also at least one incident involving threat of death that is not directly related to the fictional disease.

Reasons for reccing (“Reasons for reccing” in bold): I’m submitting this as my fourth entry in the “Claim a Character” challenge. I’m also submitting this for the seasonal challenge. If you ever wanted to see the Thirteenth Doctor and/or her companions meet past New Who companions, then this is for you - Clara, Rose, Kate, Osgood, and River all show up. In fact, the Doctor isn’t even in the fic for the first several chapters (though she is a major character once she does appear), meaning that the beginning has a lot of focus on Thirteen’s companions getting to know other companions, and the other companions getting to know each other. The main plot itself is very well done and well paced, timely-wimey and tangled without ever getting too confusing. I read this as it came out and was excited to read each update.

Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair, Nyssa or Traken, Adric, Tegan Jovanka

Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 17,679 words
Creator's Summary:
Once again, a leisure trip in the TARDIS turns into a mission to help. Yaz is on search and rescue, looking for a lost child, but soon finds she needs rescuing herself. In the meantime, Graham and Ryan grapple with the local culture, and the Doctor has to decide at what point she must let go of her hope. Five and a half hours might not be long enough this time...

(alt summary: author spends 15k getting Yaz and the Doctor to hug)
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair
Warnings/Notes: Spoilery warning that a major character is thought to be dead for a significant chunk of this story.

Reasons for reccing: It's a great story with a really alien world and aliens that are not at all humanoid. As the author says in their notes, it's like an episode that they wouldn't have been able to afford to do. The plot is interesting and the characters are in character.

Creator's Summary: The Doctor finds out about Oppy's haunting last message.
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Ryan Sinclair, Graham O'Brien, Opportunity (Mars Rover)
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: This is a short and sweet fic about the Doctor saving the Mars Rover Opportunity when it dies. There's also some interesting details about life on Mars and the Doctor's relationship with NASA. It's also from Graham's POV, and the author has perfectly captured his lingering grief about Grace and his cynicism about everything, which contrasts to the other's excitement.

Reasons for reccing: This is a really sweet (or maybe bittersweet rather) look at Graham running into Ian in a hospital waiting room and finding that they have a surprising amount in common, with a bonus reunion when the Doctor turns up looking for her current companion. Guaranteed to make you go 'awww' at least a bit.

Title: In defence of the Thirteenth Doctor and Series 11
Creator: [tumblr.com profile] sapphichymns
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 2,421 words
Creator's Summary: There has been a lot of rhetoric about the state of the show and it’ll probably continue no matter what the show does (that’s Doctor Who for ya). But 1 year later, why not have a new look at the Thirteenth Doctor and Series 11 and some of the criticisms it received?

By the way, this will be quite long so buckle up!
Characters/Pairing: Thirteenth Doctor, Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair, Yasmin Khan
Warnings/Notes: -

Reasons for reccing: This is a really thorough analysis that looks into some of the criticisms against series 11 of Doctor Who and discusses their merits and the narrative reasons why those changes that received criticisms were made. The essay analyzes the dramatic shift between series 10 and series 11 and defends its purpose. It also offers some decent commentary of the characters and their development (or lack thereof). It’s a great essay to read in preparation of series 12.

Title: N/A
Creator: [tumblr.com profile] jod13whittaker
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 958 words
Creator's Summary: there’s a lot to unpack out of the DW s12 trailers, but personally I’m most eager to see what’s going on with Graham asking both, “Who are you, Doc?” and, “What have you brought here, Doctor?”

like I hope it’s not some weird fake-out where 13 has brought some really trash cake and Graham’s like “what have you brought, even I can’t eat this” because Chibbers has been building up to the gang-fam finally questioning the Dr in a slow-burn sort of way since last series.
Characters/Pairing: Thirteenth Doctor, Yazmin Khan, Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair
Warnings/Notes: -

Reasons for reccing: This is fantastic analysis that delves into the current Team Tardis’ characters, explaining why the companions never truly questioned or challenged the Doctor and why and how the Doctor has been hiding the darker parts of herself (and her world). And how the series 12 trailer hints at a change in that with the companions facing real dangers and seeing the other elements of the Doctor.

Reasons for reccing: This is a wonderful, happy-making vid, which conveys the wonder and the joy and the poignancy (the whole "saddest songs" line!) of the show and shows how all of it is new and exciting for each new iteration. I love that it starts with the current and still new Team Tardis and then broadens to include all New Who Doctors and companions, and even a couple of recurring and minor characters.

Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor/The Doctor(s), with various companions and other characters also making apperances

Reasons for reccing: I'm slightly biased, because this is a remix of one of my own fics, but if you want to read an absolutely hilarious story where the Doctor accidentally keeps getting married to her previous selves (despite Ryan, Yaz and Graham's efforts to stop her), read this.

Reasons for reccing: Graham gets to experience a darker side of the Doctor. Something we haven't seen much of in Thirteen's run, so it's interesting to have fanfic tackle it. I was wondering how to interpret "outside the box" and what exactly to rec for it and I decided to take it quite literally, i.e. rec something that focuses on the outside = the world our characters meet when they step outside their blue box.

Creator: [deviantart.com profile] orneryjen
Rating: gen
Creator's Summary: They dared not to look at him... / "This doesn't look anything like Barcelona..."
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor / Tenth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I was fascinated by these because you don't usually get so much focus on the space surrounding the characters in fanart; the Doctor standing in the middle of each of these is almost dwarfed by the places he's in and I love that the Tardis can be seen in the back both times, almost like a portal that led the Doctor there. I also love that you don't necessarily get what's going on with the surroundings at first glance, at least I didn't (clicking on the zoom-in button is definitely recommended). And not only do they reference key episodes/villains, the colour schemes fit very well with each Doctor and with what the cinematography was doing during their respective eras (blue-ish fairytale lighting / brown-ish earthy-industrial atmosphere).

Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] selena / [personal profile] selenak

Characters/Pairings: Graham O'Brien, Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Ryan Sinclair, mentions of previous companions
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: Graham puts together a survival kit list for future companions. This is one of my favourite fics for the current DW era, with a lovely concept behind it. It captures Graham's voice beautifully: his practicality, his melancholy moments and his thoughts of Grace, his humour, his heart, and his life experience. A touching and fun story with poignant and fitting references to previous companions, be it Nardole or Jo or Martha or Rory.

Title: Time and Space and the Bits in Between
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] kesdax
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 2788 words
Creator's Summary: “Yaz? Why did your mum think we were seeing each other?”
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor/Yasmin Khan. Characters: Thirteenth Doctor, Yasmin Khan, Ryan Sinclair, Graham O'Brien.
Warnings/Notes: Follows S11E04: Arachnids in the UK, so spoilers for that one.

Reasons for reccing: First, the characterizations are awesome, everyone of the new team sounds so delightfully themselves, their interactions are spot on, the Thirteenth Doctor so her, the giddiness and weirdness as well as the more serious, worried, responsible side; and we get a Yaz point of view that builds on what we've seen in the show so far and makes her more fleshed out, as I'm yearning for the show itself to do (though the latest episode gave us more of that and I'm glad for that). Anyway, I maaaaaybe found this because I went to look for Thirteen/Yaz fics about half an hour after I finished watching the episode, and this one totally caught my attention for being really well-written and getting the tone and characterization right, and it just drew me in - and the build-up to the relationship part felt real and believable for the characters. There's so much beautiful TARDIS team interaction and TARDIS exploration that I'm pretty sure you can enjoy it without shipping Thirteen and Yasmin, as long as you're not terribly opposed to it either.

Here's a little snippet from early on, to give you a taste:

“Ah ha!” the Doctor shouted, making both Graham and Ryan jump. Yaz just put on her best disapproving police officer face and folded her arms. “A door! I bet it’s a bedroom. See? Know exactly where I am. Lost.” She shook her head as if she had never heard anything so ridiculous in her life. continued under the cut )
