This is a reccing community for Doctor Who in all its incarnations, spin-offs, Extended Universe etc. etc.

Members may rec any type of fanwork at any time, although there will also be monthly themes and seasonal challenges, plus requests.

Rules
1. Be civil and respectful to other community members & no bashing of characters, pairings, fanworks, or creators. Attempts at galactic domination will also be severely frowned upon.

2. Works recced must be posted publicly at the time of reccing (i.e. not posted to a locked journal etc.). You may rec works archive-locked to AO3, but please note that in the header info of your rec. Please do not rec works in progress, and no self recs. One user may post a max of 2 posts to the comm per day.

What makes a good fanwork is a very subjective subject, but at base line, please ensure that all your recs are complete and generally comprehensible/accessible as appropriate to the medium. (i.e. formatted & punctuated etc.; in the case of podfic, vids etc., that they are visible/audible, with working streaming/downloading links (at time of reccing); and that artworks are finished, visible, & recognisable as the subject etc.) If reccing a crossover, it should contain recognisable DW-related content/characters. In a fusion, Doctor Who should be the major fandom (which the characters are from) and not the fandom it is being fused with. (The main exception to latter is if the work was accepted onto the Teaspoon archive, it is also fine here.)

3. Works may be recced more than once (although please try to vary things up where you can and avoid repeating recs within a short period of time - you can use the tags to check whether or not something has already been recced).

4. You must include some sort of 'blurb' as to why you are reccing the work, however brief. Please include any relevant warnings/content notes in the header template provided, particularly when linking directly to a work without any header/equivalent info. (i.e. spoilers, physical triggers in vids, noting topics that may be triggery - abuse, death, non-con etc. Please don't warn for slash/het/femslash etc.)

5. Rec away!

If you have any other questions, please ask in the comments here. (Anon commenting is on.)

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, so if you've seen something great, just post! In addition, however, we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our March theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for April:

Ninth Doctor // Short

"So this is what you should do: let the TARDIS die. Just let this old box gather dust. No one can open it. No one will even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing standing on a street corner. And over the years, the world will move on and the box will be buried. And if you wanna remember me, then you can do one thing, that's all, one thing... Have a fantastic life."

For this month's theme, rec works featuring anyone or anything from the Ninth Doctor's era OR rec short works - drabbles, ficlets, vidlets, sketches, icons/icon sets or whatever other tiny gems you can find. Or, of course, you can combine both themes.

Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 30 April 2019 in your timezone. (See Info & Guidelines for posting template and instructions). Recs posted for monthly themes have their own tag with banners every six months for reccers who posted something for every theme in that time.

When making your post, make sure you add the tag "other: monthly theme". (The mods will take care of any other needed tags, as usual, but which challenge/theme a rec is for could easily be missed.)

The current Seasonal Challenge is a Manifesto round and is open for signs ups and posting till 11th June 2019.

Request List
In addition, anyone may make requests for any recs they are keen to see. (e.g. "Fourth Doctor fic, not on Teaspoon," "Cheerful Bill Potts artwork," "Leela vid," "recent Ten/Rose," etc. etc.,) If you are only interested in one medium, don't forget to specify fic/art/vid/mix/icons/podfic etc. in your request.

Current requests:
* Second Doctor era gen fic, any character(s), any genre ([personal profile] auroracloud)
* Two/Jamie and Zoe/Isobel fic not on Teaspoon or AO3 ([personal profile] auroracloud)
* Classic Who fanvids, any Doctor/TARDIS team (music, no/minimal audio quotes preferred), especially out there on tumblr/YT ([personal profile] thisbluespirit)
* Twelfth Doctor h/c that's not on AO3 (any pairing or gen) ([personal profile] ruuger)
* Rose/Nine fic, any genre, anywhere (anon)

Simply make your requests in the comments here to be added to the list. (Anon commenting is on.) If you make a rec that fills any of these requests, please add the "other: request" tag to your entry so it can be found easily.)

Any other questions? Please ask here or at the Info & Guidelines post, or PM the mod.

Title: Relatives & Relativity
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Yahtzee
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 17,942 words
Creator's Summary: "Elinor – do you think it could be real – that he could – that he might be a magician?"/ "His speech is rather rough, dearest. More likely he is a day-labourer from the North."
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Elinor & Marianne Dashwood
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I wouldn't want the 'short' theme for this month to prevent anyone reccing longer Nine fic, so I've fished up an old one but a very good one. It's set pre-Rose for the Doctor and is perfectly in character for both canons (no mean feat when one of them is Austen), and is a wonderful read, and is both humorous and bittersweet.

(Also here at the Teaspoon.)
auroracloud: Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon with open sky behind, looking at something (2 & Jamie)

Title: Restaurants
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] chaya
Rating: General audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 573 words
Creator's Summary: When in Rome.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Heriot

Reasons for reccing: For this month's "shorts" theme and just because it's delightful, this little fic that consists of four brief scenes that nevertheless manage to paint vivid scenes of the events! Basically, various scenes of where Second Doctor era TARDIS teams go to restaurants, and Jamie has some problems adjusting to the fussy expectations of how to be in restaurants. But to make it even better, there's also one in which Jamie's on his turf and knows exactly how to behave while the others are confused.

Three different versions of Rose and the "Bad Wolf", each putting their own twist on the moniker and running with the "wolf" part of the image.

Title: Rose is Bad Wolf
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] Alea-lefevre
Rating: Gen
Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: I adore the blue-grey-yellow colour scheme of this and all three parts of the drawing - Rose, the Tardis, and the ghostlike wolf - are just incredibly precise and beautiful to look at.

Title: Bad Wolf is Bad
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] MrBorsch
Rating: Gen
Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: This wolf is almost like a nightmare version, giant compared to Rose, with glowing red eyes and long claws, holding her in his palm. The connection between them through the swirling vortex energy is fascinating - is she conjuring it up, directing it? The colour scheme is very different from the first one but no less striking.

Title: Bad Wolf

Rating: gen
Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: An intense and mostly black and white portrait of Rose, which makes the yellow eye all the more striking - and wolflike! There's an interesting sense of danger in it.

Title: Babelcolour Tribute - Christopher Eccleston
Creator: [youtube.com profile] BabelColour
Rating: None (All ages)
Word Count/Length/Size: 2.34 mins
Creator's Summary: A tribute to that northern softy
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor + ensemble
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: To kick off this month's theme, an oldie, but still a good 'un - it's a lovely light-hearted tribute to Nine that provides a great contrast to what can be rather an angsty era, especially in fanworks.

Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 762
Creator's Summary: Every planet with life starts with the same set of names.
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane
Warnings/Notes:

Reasons for reccing: Considering that Seven is my favourite, I've been completely rubbish at reccing things for that era in the monthly theme, but nipping in before it's too late, here's a gem written for the lastest round of the Chocolate Box Exchange last month.

Seven & Ace and their interactions are pitch perfect here, as the Doctor gets philosophical over what isn't a straight forward question after all, and underlying it all is the strength of their relationship. Just lovely.

Creator's Summary: this is one of my older toons i drew back in 2008 as part of a collection of doctor who companions.
Characters/Pairings: Ace
Warnings/Notes:

Reasons for reccing: It's a fabulous portrait of Ace. That's all the reason one needs, right?

Title: Melt
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] kathkin
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1724 words
Creator's Summary: It was turning out to be a day for strange, beautiful new things. The Doctor introduces Jamie to the joys of chocolate.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon, and appearances by Ben and Polly near the end
Warnings/Notes: My warning, based on experience: may make you crave chocolate.

Reasons for reccing: This is a really sweet, cute, fluffy fic that involves chocolate and kissing, and I thought there should be something involving chocolate recced for the romance theme. And also because I realized I hadn't recced this one yet!

Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] JohnAmendAll
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 169 words
Creator's Summary: Compared to fighting Morgaine's army, cooking breakfast should be a simple matter... shouldn't it?
Characters/Pairings: Ancelyn ap Gwalchmai/Winifred Bambera

Reasons for reccing: The monthly theme of Seventh Doctor reminded me I haven't yet gone out to look for much fic from that era, so I naturally had to go and look up some fic about the fabulous Brigadier Winifred Bambera from Battlefield, as she is The Awesomest. I found this delightful, funny little fic about Ancelyn and Winifred daring the dastardly threat of kitchen appliances. In the show I loved Ancelyn's awesomely ridiculous epicness and Bambera's fabulous efficiency, and much enjoy reading about them encountering domestic trials. I could read an entire series of fics about Ancelyn and Bambera and various household activities. (Hmm, better go drop a prompt at [community profile] who_guestfest!)

Title: We'll Be Dating To the End of Time
Creator: [personal profile] thisbluespirit / [archiveofourown.org profile] thisbluespirit
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1934 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor tries taking Yaz on some nice, calm, normal dates. It goes about exactly as well as you'd imagine.
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor/Yasmin Khan

Reasons for reccing: For the romance theme, I wanted to rec this adorable Thirteen/Yaz fic, published in this year's Chocolate Box exchange, by our dear mod, which deserves all the attention it can get. As I may have said before, I have a soft spot for romance fics that include plenty of the humour, mayhem, things going wrong and running around that belongs to the show. I also like it when romance involving the Doctor shows the Doctor not quite knowing how to do human things but trying anyway. This is one of the best if not the best I've read of that sort, and Thirteen and Yaz are charmingly themselves, it's hilarious, and it's happy and feel-good. I'm pretty sure it works whether you actually ship them or not!

It also contains lines such as: Although, she had to admit that now she wasn’t only sort of jealous of a time machine, she was kind of jealous of a universe disguised as a frog and entities unknown who went on dates that lasted for twenty-four years. The competition was bizarre, you could say that much.

as well as:

“Doctor,” said Yaz, trying to sound casually conversational, which wasn’t the easiest thing right now, “do you, er, have tentacles?”

Which should be enough to convince anyone, right?

I've been meaning to post some recs for the Second Doctor gen request for a while, so here are two now to make up for my delay, both of them fabulous historical longfic for the same TARDIS team.

Title: The Spartans
Creator: [personal profile] jjpor | JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 69,883 words
Creator's Summary: Greece, 480 BC: As the vast armies of the King of Kings prepare to battle the outnumbered defenders of the Hot Gates, the Doctor and his friends find themselves where they often find themselves at times like this – caught in the middle.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright
Warnings/Notes: Explicit violence.

Reasons for reccing: It's no secret that JJPOR is still one of my favourite Doctor Who writers and this may be my favourite of his stories. It's basically a full-on attempt at a 60s era historical, although going that little further (like a PDA or MA, save that JJPOR's stuff has far more heart and eventual happy endings) to allow for some of the historical reality. It's vividly written, excellently characterised, well-plotted out, and a real treat.

Title: Reciprocal Quandaries
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 30,765
Creator's Summary: Two, Ben, Polly and Jamie pause for a bit of restful holiday at the 1900 Paris Exposition - or so they wished. A 'historic' adventure for one of the Old School teams.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Talking of treats, this is also a long historical 'missing adventure' featuring the very same TARDIS team, but with a much lighter edge. It is a delightful runaround set during the Paris Exposition in 1900, complete with improbable doppelgangers and actual candy floss, and is heaps of fun. I only wish there were more of it!

Title: Starburn
Creator: <[archiveofourown.org profile] Eggling
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 1,265 words I've no idea why, but AO3 doesn't show a word count for it. Probably somewhere in the range of 1,000 words, though.
Creator's Summary: “Tonight was meant to be special."

“I’m on another planet, watchin’ two stars crash into each other, with the time-travelling alien I’m a wee bit in love with. I dinnae see how that’s not special.”

The Doctor and Jamie watch a cosmic event - from inside a prison cell.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes:

Reasons for reccing: Another for the romance theme and my beloved Two/Jamie pairing. This is a recent, quite adorable little fic where they're actually trying to be on a date, but of course things haven't gone as planned, because this is the Doctor we're talking about. Also the Doctor's ideas of a date are a bit more grandiose than your average "restaurant and candlelight" scenario. As they would be. I have a special soft spot for stories that combine the inevitable chaos and frolic and humour of life around the Doctor with some sweet romantic fluff, and this definitely fits the bill.

Rating: - (would fall under General, I guess)
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: The Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon

Reasons for reccing: A beautiful, beautiful drawing of the Second Doctor and Jamie almost kissing. The theme for this month was romance, and I'm deeply, deeply in love with Second Doctor/Jamie as a ship, so naturally I'm going to have to rec some works for that pairing (stand prepared, there will be more). Here is one of my favourite pieces of Two/Jamie fan art, by Van Donovan who's also written some lovely fics for that pairing. I utterly adore this picture - the style is so beautiful, a bit dreamy, both characters look great, and the almost-kiss position is lovely. And I think I've put in enough generally enthusiastic adjectives into one paragraph now.

Title: Dreaming
Creator: [youtube.com profile] Calapine)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:05 minutes
Creator's Summary: A Doctor Who Nyssa/Tegan fanvid.
Characters/Pairings: Tegan Jovanka/Nyssa of Traken
Notes: Set to the song "Dreaming" by Blondie.

Reasons for reccing: It's a lovely Nyssa/Tegan fanvid with lots of clips of them doing things together, turning to look at one another, and generally being great and friendly and cozy together, set to a cheerful, energetic 1980's rock song by Blondie. I haven't watched much in the way of vids before, but this one completely won me over.

For the monthly theme of romance! Although the clips work just as well for a gen friendship vid, if you prefer that.

Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: Ace with a baseball bat, catching her mid-movement - I really love the style and the energy in this.

Creator: [tumblr.com profile] veradune (Twelve/Clara sideblog: [tumblr.com profile] notthehugging)
Rating: Gen
Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Clara
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: Two kisses inspired by Hell Bent and I love how different they are! First one is set in the cloisters, a still scene set during the moment when we cut away from their conversation - all dark, shimmery colours coupled with bits of light illuminating their outlines and hands. Second one is set in the café, all monochrome light blue and much more dynamic, catching them mid-movement, Clara clutching his lapel.

Time for [community profile] tardis_library's next seasonal challenge, which this time will be our:

Manifesto Challenge

Manifestos can be for an era or spin-off, character, or pairing. Sign up in the comments and produce a manifesto for your chosen subject with between 2-15 recs.

What is a manifesto, you might ask? Manifestos (or primers/promos/overviews) are a way to introduce others to a canon or canon element that you love. Don't be scared off by the name! A basic manifesto will include some blurb on what you like about your chosen canon thing, what people might expect to find in it, or might attract them to it. You can include pictures, gifs, links to related resources, communities, tumblrs, video clips, or keep it simple and text only as you please.

So what your manifesto will include is up to you! You do need to keep it to one post, though, so if you hit the Dreamwidth posting limit, you've definitely gone too far.

Manifestos are generally positive, like recs, so if you choose a spin-off, or era, try and represent all characters and popular fandom or canon pairings fairly evenly in your general blurb and in your recs, if you can (though you don't need to include recs for everything). It's fine, of course, to make it clear what your own preferences are - just no bashing etc.

If you'd like to see some examples for inspiration, het_reccers used to have regular challenges and has a masterlist of (character, fandom & pairing) manifestos you can browse through. You can also check out the archive at [community profile] ship_manifesto, or any other manifesto comm still around.

As we are a reccing community, you do need to include recs as well as the general blurb, and, unlike our other seasonal challenges, they all go in one post!

As the manifesto itself can take some work or may cover a rare element of canon that you want to entice more fans into, the required no of recs for completing this challenge is 2, although you may include up to 15 in total in your manifesto. (The posting template below has the coding for 5, so just delete or c+p as suits your needs.)

How It Works
1. Claim your chosen challenge here. For this challenge only one person can claim any given topic, so it will be first come, first served! (However, it's fine for someone to claim a pairing or character from a spin-off or era that has already been chosen.)

In the comment claim a spin-off, era, character or pairing + a date from 13th March-11th June. (If you need an extension, comment back here to ask. This is just to try and make sure we stagger the manifestos across the period.)

2. When ready, post your manifesto on your selected date, using the coding below:

The challenge ends on Tuesday 11th June 2019.

Don't forget to tag your posts with "other: seasonal challenge" so they don't get missed.

List of Claims )

If you have any other questions about this challenge, please ask in the comments, or PM the mod. General reccing and our monthly themes continue as usual and you can post up to 2 recs daily.

Title: Gallifreyan Girl
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] khallion)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: Lots of questions about this design. It's not meant to be anyone in particular. More of an homage to the amazing cosplayers I have seen in Tardis dresses, the Tardis in human form, and the "Gibson Girl".
And sometimes, I just feel like drawing something beautiful.

Characters/Pairings: No particular character, as explained above, rather a young woman in a TARDIS dress - I guess you can say she's a personification of the TARDIS!. She does look rather like a Gibson Girl version of TARDIS-as-Idris.

Reasons for reccing: Another gorgeous piece of art I happened to found when browsing today and just had to share. It's just so incredibly beautiful, and a lovely hommage to the TARDIS! Love colour scheme and the Gallifreyan lettering motifs, too.

Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond

Reasons for reccing: It combines Art Nouveau with Doctor Who, do I need to explain more? Also, it's gorgeous, and Amy is a great character for Art Nouveau style art, being so vivid, and it captures her well. I found this today and thought I must share it here.

Title: A History in Kisses
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Selenay
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1025 words
Creator's Summary: Bill concluded, based on empirical evidence, that kissing boys was not going to be her thing.
Characters/Pairings: Bill Potts; Bill/various OFCs, Bill/Heather

Reasons for reccing: This fic starts a series of Bill Potts stories written by Selenay as S10 was airing; although the individual stories in the series stand very well on their own. Anyway, I love all the stories in the series, but the first one is a good one to start with, and it's such a lovely, slightly wistful story of the coming of age of Bill Potts and her romantic entanglements, and also explains how Bill ended up working in the university canteen. And contains lots of Bill kissing girls, which is always a plus. The narrative voice of Bill is perfect, although the series had only started airing when this was written.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim in the seasonal challenge. Also, the monthly theme of romance.

Reasons for reccing: This is a whole fan art series too lovely to choose just one or two in it, so I'm going to post links to several of my favourites under the cut (since you could do that when you're fulfilling a challenge!) and from them, you can click on your favourites and, if you want, you can easily access the gallery to see even more of them. These are quite exquisite drawings of most of the female companions in Doctor Who, pictured with larger-than-life flowers chosen to match their personality, appearance, colours etc. While combining female characters with flowers may sound very traditional, the characters possess all the vividness, strength and energy they have in the series - the flowers seem to represent vitality and growth rather than any excessive fragility or some such. Many of the pictures are my favourite fan arts ever of those characters.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim before the seasonal challenge ends!

Lots of lovely pictures of lovely female characters )

Title: More Than an Echo
Creator: samfeasor
Rating:
All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: Series of 17 stories, lengths 420 to 1259 words
Creator's Summary: The continuing adventures of the Doctor's daughter. A creature of first experiences, she is growing and learning exponentially, traveling the universe in the year 6012 (New Byzantine Calendar) and trying to lead the kind of life that would make her father proud: an exemplary one. These stories take place, to the best of my ability, in "chronological" order, as Jenny ages and learns from day to day.
Characters/Pairings: Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter)
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:
Continuing my last-minute dash at my seasonal challenge, "Companions that Never Were." Jenny is an unusual "othered" character, an adult whose life is only days long and is naive about most aspects of human existence. This series of vignettes explores that otherness as she starts to explore the universe and learn more about herself, her parents, and life. The first story is set a few days after her birth, the last two years and forty-six days into her life.

Rating: None. (All ages)
Word Count/Length/Size: 4.30 mins
Creator's Summary: Ace & the Doctor, to the closing theme from The Raccoons. Incredibly cheesy and very, very eighties music.
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor & Ace McShane
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's an old one now (as you can tell from the footage quality), but still the best Seven and Ace vid I know, capturing everything I love about them - and I love them a lot.

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, so if you've seen something great, just post! In addition, however, we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our February theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for March:

Seventh Doctor // Romance

"Love has never been known for its rationality."

For this month's theme, rec works featuring anyone or anything from the Seventh Doctor's era OR rec works featuring romance in some flavour or other, or both. The Seventh Doctor hates unrequited love, after all...

Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 31st March 2019 in your timezone.

The current Seasonal Challenge is a Manifesto round and is open for signs ups and posting till 11th June 2019 - just under a week left!

Title: Long Night's Journey Into Day
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] sahiya
Rating: Explicit
Word Count/Length/Size: 36,514
Creator's Summary: Stranded in Cardiff by his Time Lord twin, the human Doctor must carve out a life for himself at a Torchwood still reeling from losing two of their own.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness / Ianto Jones / Tenth Doctor (duplicate). Gwen Cooper, Martha Jones.
Warnings/Notes: Explicit m/m (and m/m/m) sex in this one, too.

Reasons for reccing: Another of my favourite Torchwood fics, though this one is a New Who crossover; and another one of my "wait, must get in Torchwood recs before February ends!" Basically, it takes place after Torchwood S2 and Stolen Earth/Journey's End, in canon divergence AU where the Tenth Doctor, instead of dumping the human Doctor into the parallel universe with Rose, lets them stay but sends his human duplicate off to Cardiff with Jack. Jack is still recovering from all the pain inflicted on him by S2 and before, and it falls mostly to Ianto to help the newcomer settle, while also trying to figure out his complicated relationship with Jack. Things ensue.

Sahiya's fics always contain tons of the kind of emotional hurt/comfort that pushes all my buttons, and this one is no exception, and delivers well on both the hurt and the comfort. The story is well written, characterization of all three is wonderful, as well as the supporting cast of Gwen and Martha, and I enjoy the development of all the relationships between the three main characters.

This is the first part of a series, but stands well on its own. A later part of the series also includes Donna Noble, Rose Tyler, and the original, Time Lord edition of the Tenth Doctor, but I do recommend starting with this part!

Title: A Matter of Time
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] demotu/ [livejournal.com profile] demotu
Rating: Explicit
Word Count/Length/Size: 101,136 words
Creator's Summary: A time travelling, action-adventure, romance-filled science fiction romp ensues when Ianto runs into Jack in the fifty-first century after an accident with a vortex manipulator. Laser blasters, alien dance clubs, mercenaries, a little too much public sex for Ianto's tastes, sneaky plans and circular logic can be found here. Set after Something Borrowed, but not particularly "AU" - it slots into season 2
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones, several well-developed OCs and some pairings involving them. There's also an interlude with a threesome that includes a character/self combination, but it's not essential to the plot, so if that kind of thing puts you off, you can just skip that one.
Warnings/Notes: Explicit, mainly m/m sex happens here and there. Come to think of it, most of my favourite Torchwood fics have explicit sex. I think that's just the way Jack/Ianto stories tend to roll.

Reasons for reccing: Just managing to get in some Torchwood recs before February ends with its spin-offs theme! This was a much-recced and much-loved fic in the heyday of the Torchwood fandom, but as the fandom isn't so active anymore, perhaps it could use a boost to let newer fans know about it. It's one of my favourite Torchwood fics ever, and probably the only one I quite often think back on. The creator's summary says all the main things about it; I'll just add that it has excellent characterization of both Ianto and Jack, and in Jack's case offers fascinating views into Jack at different times of his life. The adventures are exciting, it's one of my favourite time travel stories, and the developments of Jack and Ianto's relationship are lovely and well explored. In addition, the OCs are well-developed and could just as well star in a non-fannish science fiction novel. Also, it has my favourite Jack-before-he-was-Jack name - it actually works and sounds like a real name and suits him.

Title: A Place in Time
Creator: [youtube.com profile] VanielDonovan (Van Donovan)
Rating: None (All ages)
Word Count/Length/Size: 1.07 mins
Creator's Summary: A Ben/Polly music video for one of the most underappreciated couples in Doctor Who canon!
Characters/Pairings: Ben Jackson/Polly Wright
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Another for my favourite pairings seasonal challenge. Ben and Polly are indeed far too underappreciated, mainly due to so many of their episodes being junked, and this is a sweet and fun well done tribute vidlet that I was delighted to stumble over. And it's a great choice of final clip!

Title: A Tale of Three Diamonds

Word Count/Length/Size: 1644
Creator's Summary: [Doctor Who/Highlander/Leverage crossover] Three diamonds, three thieves. The world may not be big enough.
Characters/Pairings: Lady Christina de Souza
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Continuing my seasonal challenge, another "Companion that never was" - Lady Christina de Souza - and her rivalry with several other distinguished thieves.
