This is a reccing community for Doctor Who in all its incarnations, spin-offs, Extended Universe etc. etc.

Members may rec any type of fanwork at any time, although there will also be monthly themes and seasonal challenges, plus requests.

Rules
1. Be civil and respectful to other community members & no bashing of characters, pairings, fanworks, or creators. Attempts at galactic domination will also be severely frowned upon.

2. Works recced must be posted publicly at the time of reccing (i.e. not posted to a locked journal etc.). You may rec works archive-locked to AO3, but please note that in the header info of your rec. Please do not rec works in progress, and no self recs. One user may post a max of 2 posts to the comm per day.

What makes a good fanwork is a very subjective subject, but at base line, please ensure that all your recs are complete and generally comprehensible/accessible as appropriate to the medium. (i.e. formatted & punctuated etc.; in the case of podfic, vids etc., that they are visible/audible, with working streaming/downloading links (at time of reccing); and that artworks are finished, visible, & recognisable as the subject etc.) If reccing a crossover, it should contain recognisable DW-related content/characters. In a fusion, Doctor Who should be the major fandom (which the characters are from) and not the fandom it is being fused with. (The main exception to latter is if the work was accepted onto the Teaspoon archive, it is also fine here.)

3. Works may be recced more than once (although please try to vary things up where you can and avoid repeating recs within a short period of time - you can use the tags to check whether or not something has already been recced).

4. You must include some sort of 'blurb' as to why you are reccing the work, however brief. Please include any relevant warnings/content notes in the header template provided, particularly when linking directly to a work without any header/equivalent info. (i.e. spoilers, physical triggers in vids, noting topics that may be triggery - abuse, death, non-con etc. Please don't warn for slash/het/femslash etc.)

5. Rec away!

If you have any other questions, please ask in the comments here. (Anon commenting is on.)

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, so if you've seen something great, post away as you wish!

In addition, however, we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our January theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for February:

Spin-Offs (etc.)

"I saw amazing things, out there in space--but there is strangeness to be found, wherever you turn. Life on Earth can be an adventure too... you just need to know where to look!" (Sarah Jane Smith, Invasion of the Bane.)

For this month's theme, rec works featuring anything or anyone from the various spin-offs and associated material that Doctor Who has spawned over its 55+ years' existence. It's time for the rest of the Whoniverse to have a chance to shine, so bring out your recs for all the spin-offs and odd associated bits and pieces - Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, Class, Shalka, K9 & Company, the 60s Dalek films, Target's The Companions of Doctor Who, Comic Relief sketches, the Five(Ish) Doctors, the BBV releases, Faction Paradox, Bernice Summerfield's solo adventures in any format, Absalom Daak, the 60s TV Comic strip adventures, Dalek comic strips, stage plays, and the various audio spin-offs such as Gallifrey, Jago & Litefoot, Doctor Who Unbound, UNIT, Kaldor City, and anything else you can think of along these lines. (This list may be long but it's in no way comprehensive!)

(What doesn't count here are the any of the EU ranges that continue the main series - Big Finish main ranges, Virgin and BBC books, regular DWM comic strips etc. Also regardless of how technically correct it might be, it isn't the opportunity you've been waiting for to rec Blake's 7 fic, save in crossovers, of course. Ditto any other major other fandom that may have technically made itself canonically exist in the Doctor Who universe at any point!)

Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 28 February 2019 in your timezone. (See Info & Guidelines for posting template and instructions). Recs posted for monthly themes have their own tag with banners every six months for reccers who posted something for every theme in that time.

When making your post, make sure you add the tag "other: monthly theme". (The mods will take care of any other needed tags, as usual, but which challenge/theme a rec is for could easily be missed.)

The current Seasonal Challenge is a Choose Your Own round and is open for signs ups and posting till 7th March 2019 - not the 7th of Feb as I originally (and very mistakenly) said! So, there's still over a month to sign-up and post stuff if you would like to do so.

Request List
In addition, anyone may make requests for any recs they are keen to see. (e.g. "Fourth Doctor fic, not on Teaspoon," "Cheerful Bill Potts artwork," "Leela vid," "recent Ten/Rose," etc. etc.,) If you are only interested in one medium, don't forget to specify fic/art/vid/mix/icons/podfic etc. in your request.

* Second Doctor era gen fic, any character(s), any genre ([personal profile] auroracloud
* Two/Jamie and Zoe/Isobel fic not on Teaspoon or AO3 ([personal profile] auroracloud)
* Classic Who fanvids, any Doctor/TARDIS team (music, no/minimal audio quotes preferred), especially out there on tumblr/YT ([personal profile] thisbluespirit)
* Twelfth Doctor h/c that's not on AO3 (any pairing or gen) ([personal profile] ruuger)

Simply make your requests in the comments here to be added to the list. (Anon commenting is on.) If you make a rec that fills any of these requests, please add the "other: request" tag to your entry so it can be found easily.)

Any other questions? Please ask here or at the Info & Guidelines post, or PM the mod.

Title: Craptastic Beasts
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] kattahj
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 1502 words
Creator's Summary: As a student at Coal Hill, there's a lot you've got to deal with. Studying for exams, killing aliens, going on dates, dealing with trauma... sometimes all of it on the same day.
Characters/Pairings: April Maclean/Ram Singh
Warnings/Notes: Tagged for PTSD.

Reasons for reccing: A really excellent look at April and Ram, mid-season of Class, written for this year's Yuletide. It's sharply characterised, and both painful and funny, just as the show was. And there's just always something dangerous lurking about Coal Hill, isn't there?

Don't forget that the current seasonal challenge ends on March 6th! Still plenty of time to get your recs in!

Meanwhile, February's monthly theme of "Spin-offs" is also nearly over.

Title: Foundations
Creator: [youtube.com profile] di0br (Di Wey)
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:50 minutes
Creator's Summary: This video is about the relationship between Martha and the Tenth Doctor, mainly during the third season of Doctor Who (bits and pieces of seasons 2 and 4 were used as well). When I started making it, it was going to be a fun video, mostly, showing Ten as if he's this terrible "boyfriend" Martha can't get away from, but the vid kept getting more angsty as it was going. It's not really a bad thing, I guess, just something I wasn't anticipating. Still, there's lots of fun sequences in this. :)
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones - it is labeled and can be watched as a ship vid, but it also works for their relationship in general
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: Martha and Ten and their complicated relationship. I like that the vid doesn't shy away from it and that it's a mix of lighter and darker moments. Cracks in their foundations is quite spot-on IMO, for how they met and for how despite all the good moments between them, they never quite reached rock solid in their relationship. What I also love about this vid is that it's Martha holding them and him and the whole thing together. Because the Doctor wouldn't have and so she's the one who keeps her head when he doesn't even remember her or himself, she's the one who gets a job when they are stuck in the past, and she's the one who walks the whole earth at the end and generally does the work.

Title: Always a Song
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] Saimain
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 1100x718
Creator's Summary: A commissioned painting of the Eighth Doctor and River on a muddy battlefield, but only one of them is really there. Inspired by a scene from the heartbreaking and amazing "Dark Eyes" audio series; the quote is from the TV episode "The Husbands of River Song."
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/River Song
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Okay I admit, I'm a sucker for this pairing. Eight is my favorite Doctor and the moment he met River Song on the Big Finish audios I was enamored by them. Anyway, this piece is so lovely. It's touching and beautiful and could totally happen. The artist displays a lovely moment of comfort from River (from the data core, no doubt) to Eight. It's beautiful and sad. I love that the black and white color scheme choice here too. It definitely evokes the perfect mood for the subject matter.

Title: Zoe Heriot (the artist spells her surname with two r's, actually, but I'm taking the liberty to correct it here)
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] nightwing1975)
Creator's Summary:
Characters/Pairings: Zoe Heriot

Reasons for reccing: A lovely drawing of Zoe in her famous sparkly catsuit. Which is very sparkly, as it should be. I love this particularly because not nearly enough artists get Zoe's face and expressions right, but this one's spot on - and thank goodness she's not drawn in that horrible 'Dominators' costume which some otherwise good artists seem to like putting her in. (Heh, sorry if you like that costume, but Zoe didn't like it herself, and she didn't choose it.) Also, her confident posture is very Zoe. I was just rewatching Invasion and thought I should rec something with Zoe for my "female-centric" challenge claim!

Here, have another set of Twelve/Clara fanvids, this time permeated with sadness. Most of the romantic vids for this ship have a melancholy arc, for obvious reasons. I may have to post a second set later because there are just too many good ones to choose from.

Title: are you looking for her?
Creator: littlecreature on YouTube
Rating: G
Length: 3:30
Creator's Summary: my prayers have been answered and these two got to meet (sorta) one more time! if you don't think they're crazy canon, what are you doing?
Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:
Many of the iconic moments from their two-series run are represented here, the ones that turn up in fanvids again and again, bringing out the intense feelings and connections that lead Twelve and Clara to make really bad choices and heartbreaking sacrifices. The way Clara touches the Doctor's face; the number of times Twelve says, "I can save you." Also, you have two actors with extraordinary, emotional eyes, and they're often framed to look at each other as if there is no one else in the room or possibly the universe. The piano track is delicate and bittersweet, a gentle commentary on their doomed relationship.

Title: Kansas
Creator: purplefringe vids on YouTube
Rating: G
Length: 4:33
Creator's Summary: It's not regret, just an unexpected accounting of debts, only now called...
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:
This vid uses Vienna Teng's beautiful song as a framework for collecting many of the parallel moments, the reflected gestures, mutual deaths, the fragments and glimpses of memory, to give evidence of a love affair that happened and yet didn't. It's visible in all the details, but the necessary renunciation prevents it from ever being made overt - except perhaps in whatever it is Clara says in the Cloisters. It's a beautiful summation of a pair who are too much alike, too intertwined, and ultimately not meant to be. That final shot of the Doctor nearly dissolving in light, entering the TARDIS like a ghost, haunted by all the ghosts of Clara we've just witnessed, is both a visual statement of great clarity on which to end their journey and simply, breathtakingly lonely.

Title: Two Hearts
Creator: JCF Productions on YouTube
Rating: G
Length: 2:17
Creator's Summary: Get yourself a man who fights in his eternal torture chamber for 4.5 billion years just to see you smile again.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:
This is one of my favorite vids, unashamedly romantic and partisan, a constructed-reality vid that juxtaposes out-of-context lines of dialogue with complementary visuals to endorse a romantic interpretation of Twelve and Clara's tragedy. The narrative doesn't entirely play fair, but it creates a dramatic argument for their tangled and too-intense emotions. It acknowledges the occasions of betrayal and willfulness, the lies and inability to be honest about their feelings, while arranging, through clever editing, for the truth to be brought to light. It leaves the viewer in no doubt of the vidder's opinions on the question of love. The music here rises to a sweeping crescendo, then retreats back into a more circumspect counting of musical seconds right before, as the show does, cutting away from Clara as she prepares to make her confession.

Title: Things That Go Bump
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Liadt
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 758 words
Creator's Summary: Deep within the bowels of Kiy Uvanov’s mansion came an unearthly cry, which rattled the bones of all who heard it.
Characters/Pairings: Kiy Uvanov, Kaston Iago
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I am very fond of the rather random audio spin-off Kaldor City (a mix of characters and elements from DW's Robots of Death, Image of the Fendahl, the PDA Corpse Marker and a few escapees from Blake's 7 + a healthy dose of snark, paranoia, politics, assassinations, apocalyptic and surreal endings and killer robots) and this ficlet embraces the crack and runs with it to give us the joy of Kaldor encountering homicidal Henry Hoovers. It's just another day in the life of Firstmaster Kiy Uvanov and his assassin-for-hire Iago. With killer domestic appliances, naturally.

Title: Five Times Jenny Met One of the Doctor's Companions
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Netgirl_y2k
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1151 words
Creator's Summary: Jenny saves some civilisations, does a lot of running and meets some of the Doctor's old friends.
Characters/Pairings: Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter), Mel Bush, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana II, Tegan Jovanka, Mickey Smith.

Reasons for reccing: I love the character of Jenny even if The Doctor's Daughter has its flaws as an episode, and I love cross-era stories where different companions and guest stars meet one another, and this was a lovely example of both. The story has a great, cheerful, fresh Jenny voice, and the various companions she meets are their delightful selves. I also love their reactions to her background, and extra points for Romana II teaching her how to Time-Lord in a more thought-out fashion.

Both for my "female-centric" challenge claim, and also fitting the monthly theme of Tenth Doctor era / guest characters.

Creator's Summary: David Tennant as the Doctor in the Doctor Who episode Gridlock, with the most adorable kitty ever on his shoulder.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor

Reasons for reccing: Cute, smile-inducing, and beautiful. I adore the colour palette, which has a certain warmth and softness to it, and the way the artist captures both the Doctor's and the cat's hair. :-D

Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] jontinf
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 13,887
Creator's Summary: Clara and the Doctor if they'd never stopped running.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara Oswald
Warnings/Notes: The author tags for animal death, but it's very glancing.

Reasons for reccing: Firstly, I adore this author's style. Jontinf reproduces the comic-duo spark and swerve of Twelve and Clara's bark and banter and their sheer pleasure in egging each other on, quick-witted, sharp-tongued, sentiment-averse, sometimes downright surreal. It's a series of scenes and moments from their fugitive existence as they run and run, evading the Time Lords, ducking the shadow of death and watching for signs that the space-time fabric is about to rip open. The writing is clever and frolicsome, a tumultuous surface over a darker current of increasing desperation. The melancholy grows. So does the abrasiveness, the heartbreak, the devotion as the two of them face the fact that Clara will never again have a pulse. The Doctor can't fix everything. There is no cure.

Not all writers can convincingly put the Doctor into a sex scene, but Jontinf takes that awkwardness and makes it simply part of how they communicate, carnal and intense and ridiculous. Also proof of yet more bad judgment, since it binds them closer to each other despite the hopelessness of their flight. In some ways, this is a tale demonstrating why the Doctor should not cling to his companions; they must always leave him in the end.

Characters/Pairings: The Doctor, Toshiko Sato, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Sally Sparrow, Astrid Peth, Donna Noble, Larry Nightingale, Rita Afzal, Amelia Pond, Rory Williams, Wilfred Mott, River Song
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I read this ages ago, and I'm pretty sure that this is the story that gave me the idea for my seasonal challenge attempt for Companions Who Never Were. Also it's a very good story...

Characters/Pairings: Sally Sparrow, Luna Lovegood, Remus Lupin, Albus Dumbledore
Warnings/Notes: None

I signed up to post Twelve/Clara recs at the worst possible time of year; December turned out to be a fannish black hole. However, I still have the recs lined up, and if no one objects, I'd like to post them over the next couple of weeks. Apologies for my tardiness, and I hope a few people enjoy what follows.

Twelve/Clara is an intensely co-dependent ship, unhealthy and obsessive and beautiful, bringing out the best and the worst in both of them. It led to great sacrifices and great betrayals, and to the Doctor nearly cracking apart time and space rather than face a universe without Clara. All three of these vids emphasize those aspects of their relationship and this particular Doctor's reaction to loss.

Title: addiction
Creator: Rebel Timelord
Rating: Gen
Length: 2:06
Creator's Summary: "this video is meant to explore the dysfunctionality of the relationship between the Twelfth Doctor and Clara and the idea of their addiction to each other."
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: The score is haunting, the clips are well-chosen to suggest how Twelve and Clara mirror each other, even to the way they stand, arms outspread, when death comes for them. The mood is ominous, hypnotic, and darkly romantic.

Title: Memories Become Stories
Creator: Twelvety d.
Rating: Gen
Length: 3:57
Creator's Summary: None given
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: The music chosen for this vid mimics the unnerving tick of a cosmic clock, which gives the vidder a structure for building up suspense. The narrative focuses on the Doctor's time in the confession dial, the endlessly circling torment, hinting at his obsessive train of thought. It's spell-binding and almost dizzying, as if we're trapped inside the Doctor's mind watching the centuries pass and replaying Clara's death.

Title: Pulse
Creator: [youtube.com profile] KatrinDepp
Rating: Gen
Length: 4:58
Creator's Summary: "So here is my take on twelve/clara era"
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Clara
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: KatrinDepp is an amazing vidder, and her skill at matching clips to beats and building a breathtaking arc has won this vid a lot of well-deserved praise. It's sharp and precise in its whip-crack visual style, relentless in its pacing, melancholy and fierce rather than sentimental. It makes you scramble to keep up, which isn't a flaw but an aesthetic pleasure, and it illustrates how powerful and potentially lethal a grief-maddened Doctor might be. The whole thing is stimulating and beautifully composed, a portrait of Twelve's more desperate side. I've watched it at least a dozen times, and it never fails to thrill me.

Title: Stargazer

Word Count/Length/Size: 4881 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor erased her memories, but in her heart, Donna never quite forgot.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Shawn Temple, Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble, Eleventh Doctor, Original Characters
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A bittersweet story about Donna's life after she is back on earth, told in ten spotlights, each with their own subtitle. I especially appreciate that it fleshes out Shawn, Donna's relationship with him, and what they do with their life together: from setting up the Starlight Foundation with their lottery money to starting a family that keeps the longing for the stars going forth. They also get visited by the Doctor Incognito (more or less) - Eleven as we know him, and then Twelve and Thirteen as envisioned by the author.

Creator's Summary: A "Journey's End" fixit, courtesy of the Seventh Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Seventh Doctor, Wilfred Mott
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: As it says in the summary, this one is a fix-it in which Donna gets her memories back, courtesy of the Seventh Doctor. I really like the changing POVs, the Seventh Doctor (who is notably different from the Tenth here), Donna, and even Wilf getting to tell their experience with the situation. The explanation for why the Doctor is able to fix it here when he couldn't later/earlier is fine by me and I really like the images used for the two-minds-in-one scenario, especially because Donna has her own:

It even solves the problem of Ten not remembering what his previous self did.

7016 words
Creator's Summary: Tegan's journey takes her to places she knew she'd never go.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Tegan, Nyssa, Turlough
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I could never imagine this pairing, until I read this story. Then, once I had read it, the pairing made perfect sense, but only in the way they are together here. This story brings Tegan and the Doctor together, but in a way that preserves the Doctor's essential, alien otherness. This is such a great Tegan voice. She's such a loud "outside" sort of character but this quieter, thoughtful but unflinchingly honest internal voice works so beautifully. I love - in a slightly uncomfortable way - the way the Doctor is with her, the way he sounds and acts - I can hear him so clearly in the dialogue - but Tegan is what really makes this story. It's one that's stayed in my mind ever since I first read it, years ago.

Reasons for reccing: It's a gorgeous coda for Hide, looking at Alec Palmer and Emma Grayling and what they did next (have tea, of course). I woudl happily have watched a whole spin-off series about their supernatural adventures and awkward shippiness, and while that didn't happen, this (and seren_ccd's other pre-canon fic for them) is lovely enough to help compensate for that lack. Creator: e]> [archiveofourown.org profile] elstaplador
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 2368 words
Creator's Summary: "Life goes on. It has to. You can't just sit around waiting for someone to come back from outer space. You just get on with it." Spoilers up to and including The End of Time.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Isobel Watkins. (plus some Isobel/OFC, past Zoe/Isobel)

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly challenge of minor/guest characters, I wanted to look up Isobel Watkins fics, because Isobel is amazing and I'm currently rewatching The Invasion, and I found this treasure. It's a touching, wonderful story where post-S4 Donna is attending evening school and becomes friends with Isobel Watkins, now a well-known photographer who is teaching in that school. I love this exploration of what they both could become after their canon, and it feels healing and comforting in the face of certain elements of canon.

This rec happens to fulfill both the minor/guest characters and the 10th Doctor era monthly themes, as well as my female-centric challenge claim.

Title: Bill and Heather
Creator: [tumblr.com profile] mogamoka)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: Bill - and Heather.
Characters/Pairings: Bill Potts (+ implied Bill/Heather)

Reasons for reccing: Bill Potts standing in the rain, and smiling. A truly lovely piece of Bill artwork, featuring that lovely, hopeful smile of hers that fills every place with light. The artist has occasionally been employed even for official Doctor Who related things, such as some of the recent 'Women Who Lived' material, and looking at how wonderful her stuff is, I don't wonder why. (And no, you don't actually see Heather the girl in the picture, but well, she is present...) For my "female-centric" challenge claim.

Title: Amy Under the Snow
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] DameEleusys)
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: quick draw
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond

Reasons for reccing: I just came across this gorgeous piece of Amy fan art today, and wanted to share it here, both just because and for my "female-centric" challenge claim. I love the vivid, blazing colours contrasting with both the tranquil snowfall on the background and on Amy's quiet, reserved, thoughtful expression. I also feel that the drawing style beautifully brings across the combination of fairy tale and fierce modernity that Amy is.

As a bonus, there's what is essentially a close-up of the same picture available here, also gorgeous, and the close-up makes the fiery colours seem even more vivid.

Title: Night In
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Merfilly
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1094 words
Creator's Summary: Osgood's first night at the Smith house for a night in.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Osgood

Reasons for reccing: A cozy, lovely story where Kate brings Osgood into Sarah Jane's house and the three ladies are going to have a film night (no talking of work, blue boxes etc.). I love all these three ladies and love the idea of them getting together to watch films and enjoy each other's company. And there always needs to be more fic about awesome female characters being friends and having a good time. This is also for my challenge claim for the theme "female-centric".

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, but in addition we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our December theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for January - apologies for the slight delay!

Tenth Doctor // Minor Characters

Wilf: Nine hundred years. We must look like insects to you.
Tenth Doctor: I think you look like giants.

For this month's theme, rec works featuring anything or anyone from the Tenth Doctor's era OR works on a theme of 'minor (or guest) characters.' Works that feature both together are, of course, more than welcome!

Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 31 January 2019 in your timezone.

The current Seasonal Challenge is a Choose Your Own round and is open for signs ups and posting till 7th March 2019.

* Classic Who fanvids, any Doctor/TARDIS team (music, no/minimal audio quotes), especially out there on tumblr/YT and not in LJ vidding circles ([personal profile] thisbluespirit)

Simply make your requests in the comments here to be added to the list. (Anon commenting is on.)

Any other questions? Please ask here or at the Info & Guidelines post, or PM the mod.

Title: Pre-Raphaelite Brother Ood
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] rainesz)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: A sketch for my friend Sandra that I will eventually fix up (perspective, etc.) and turn into a inked and painted cartoon. David Tennant is standing in for Proserpine in the Dante Gabriel Rossetti painting.
Characters/Pairings: An Ood, the Tenth Doctor

Reasons for reccing: Because I'm quite sure you all (or at least some of you?) need a Pre-Raphaelite painter Ood, I thought I'd kindly provide you one. And despite the description saying it's a sketch, it's brilliant. It kinda counts for the historical theme as well, doesn't it?

Title: With True Love and Brotherhood
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] LizBee
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 814 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor has an invitation, Rosita has a firm right hook, and there's a Yeti.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Rosita, Jackson Lake
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A wonderful little post-episode fic for "The Next Doctor", looking in on Rosita, Jackson (and Frederick) a year later. A lot of poignant lines and observations for such a short fic and I love where it ends up and that it focuses on Rosita and her view on things. And that it still manages to include a Yeti Invasion.

Title: Sorry
Creator: Twitter: @ChrisWalkerT/ Youtube: Chris Walker-Thomson
Rating: Not sure - please read the warnings & info below.
Word Count/Length/Size: 15 minutes
Creator's Summary: On a cold Christmas Eve, James C Ellis stands on a bridge alone, until he is joined by a scruffy-looking peculiar man...
Characters/Pairings: The Second Doctor
Warnings/Notes: Deals with themes of suicide.

Reasons for reccing: This is stunning. It's a 15 min, fan made audio story (that basically sounds as professional as Big Finish) about the Second Doctor coming across a suicidal man on Christmas Eve. The actor who wrote/produced/starred in it drew from his own experiences with depression, so it's a tough listen, and probably not for everyone. But it's a beautiful, moving, and ultimately hopeful story about fighting the 'monsters' within.

Title: Tegan in period dress
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] harbek
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: Sort of maybe commission, but mostly for fun. Doctor Who and all. (Doesn't have more of a summary than that and the title, sorry!)
Characters/Pairings: Tegan Jovanka

Reasons for reccing: An utterly gorgeous piece of art showing Tegan wearing an exquisite 18th century outfit, fabulous hat and all, looking like she's sitting for one of those portraits from the era. Love the warm colours, too, and the attention to costume detail. It kind of makes me want to write a fic to go with it.

Both for the 'historical' monthly theme and my 'female-centric' claim for the seasonal challenge. I found this a while ago and hung onto it so that all my art recs wouldn't be stacked on one week.
