Reasons for reccing: Both for the monthly theme of multi-era, and for the seasonal challenge (due to being of type slash, and Jamie/Eight is a rare pairing, and also Charley Pollard as a character, though she's only got a fairly short part in this). I did kind of promise to bring more explicit slash on board, among other things. ;-) Anyway, I have a fondness not only for Two/Jamie but also for Jamie getting... involved with other, later Doctors. This my favourite story of that specific type, being fun, feel-good and feeling true to the characters. I loved reading it even before I was at all familiar with Eight, but now that I know him (and Charley) from the audios, it's even more fun.

Reasons for reccing: For my bingo square "TARDIS," although I was going to rec this anyway. Short, sweet, emotional and powerful; I've tagged the bookmark "fix-it for everything". Because it is, in a TARDIS manner. It really is amazing how many things such a short fic manages to put right. (It's written in 2015, so nothing beyond that point is dealt with.)

Reasons for reccing: I nearly forgot that I meant to rec more stuff for the AU theme, especially one of my favourite silly AUs of all time: this hilarious fusion of Torchwood with Clueless that somehow works. Jack is Cher. Because of course he is. Gwen is the bestie, naturally, Toshiko is the clueless newcomer, and Ianto the surprisingly attractive ex-stepbrother. It's funny, adorable, and much more feel-good than Torchwood canon, trust me. This is the one American high school AU I totally recommend!

Notes: Belongs to this artist's series of companions (mostly Classic Who ones besides this one) where different companions are drawn in somewhat Art Nouveau/Mucha style drawings with some motifs of their story and their Doctor(s) drawn to the upper left and right corners, etc. There are links to many of the others in the description of this picture, make sure to check out some of the others as well!

Reasons for reccing: I love this fan art series, and I really like this portrait of Rose, as she looks as young as she is in the beginning of her story, has a definite Series 1 feel (which is my favourite era for Rose), and captures the freshness, curiosity, and youth of Rose and that "ordinary girl" air. Also, though I've looked at this drawing many times, I only now spotted the Bad Wolf motif - see if you find it, too!

Reasons for reccing: For this month's "shorts" theme and just because it's delightful, this little fic that consists of four brief scenes that nevertheless manage to paint vivid scenes of the events! Basically, various scenes of where Second Doctor era TARDIS teams go to restaurants, and Jamie has some problems adjusting to the fussy expectations of how to be in restaurants. But to make it even better, there's also one in which Jamie's on his turf and knows exactly how to behave while the others are confused.

Title: We'll Be Dating To the End of Time

Reasons for reccing: For the romance theme, I wanted to rec this adorable Thirteen/Yaz fic, published in this year's Chocolate Box exchange, by our dear mod, which deserves all the attention it can get. As I may have said before, I have a soft spot for romance fics that include plenty of the humour, mayhem, things going wrong and running around that belongs to the show. I also like it when romance involving the Doctor shows the Doctor not quite knowing how to do human things but trying anyway. This is one of the best if not the best I've read of that sort, and Thirteen and Yaz are charmingly themselves, it's hilarious, and it's happy and feel-good. I'm pretty sure it works whether you actually ship them or not!

It also contains lines such as: Although, she had to admit that now she wasn’t only sort of jealous of a time machine, she was kind of jealous of a universe disguised as a frog and entities unknown who went on dates that lasted for twenty-four years. The competition was bizarre, you could say that much.

as well as:

“Doctor,” said Yaz, trying to sound casually conversational, which wasn’t the easiest thing right now, “do you, er, have tentacles?”

Which should be enough to convince anyone, right?

Reasons for reccing: A beautiful, beautiful drawing of the Second Doctor and Jamie almost kissing. The theme for this month was romance, and I'm deeply, deeply in love with Second Doctor/Jamie as a ship, so naturally I'm going to have to rec some works for that pairing (stand prepared, there will be more). Here is one of my favourite pieces of Two/Jamie fan art, by Van Donovan who's also written some lovely fics for that pairing. I utterly adore this picture - the style is so beautiful, a bit dreamy, both characters look great, and the almost-kiss position is lovely. And I think I've put in enough generally enthusiastic adjectives into one paragraph now.

Title: Gallifreyan Girl

Reasons for reccing: Another gorgeous piece of art I happened to found when browsing today and just had to share. It's just so incredibly beautiful, and a lovely hommage to the TARDIS! Love colour scheme and the Gallifreyan lettering motifs, too.

Title: A History in Kisses

Reasons for reccing: This fic starts a series of Bill Potts stories written by Selenay as S10 was airing; although the individual stories in the series stand very well on their own. Anyway, I love all the stories in the series, but the first one is a good one to start with, and it's such a lovely, slightly wistful story of the coming of age of Bill Potts and her romantic entanglements, and also explains how Bill ended up working in the university canteen. And contains lots of Bill kissing girls, which is always a plus. The narrative voice of Bill is perfect, although the series had only started airing when this was written.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim in the seasonal challenge. Also, the monthly theme of romance.

Title: A Matter of Time

Creator's Summary: A time travelling, action-adventure, romance-filled science fiction romp ensues when Ianto runs into Jack in the fifty-first century after an accident with a vortex manipulator. Laser blasters, alien dance clubs, mercenaries, a little too much public sex for Ianto's tastes, sneaky plans and circular logic can be found here. Set after Something Borrowed, but not particularly "AU" - it slots into season 2
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones, several well-developed OCs and some pairings involving them. There's also an interlude with a threesome that includes a character/self combination, but it's not essential to the plot, so if that kind of thing puts you off, you can just skip that one.
Warnings/Notes: Explicit, mainly m/m sex happens here and there. Come to think of it, most of my favourite Torchwood fics have explicit sex. I think that's just the way Jack/Ianto stories tend to roll.

Reasons for reccing: Just managing to get in some Torchwood recs before February ends with its spin-offs theme! This was a much-recced and much-loved fic in the heyday of the Torchwood fandom, but as the fandom isn't so active anymore, perhaps it could use a boost to let newer fans know about it. It's one of my favourite Torchwood fics ever, and probably the only one I quite often think back on. The creator's summary says all the main things about it; I'll just add that it has excellent characterization of both Ianto and Jack, and in Jack's case offers fascinating views into Jack at different times of his life. The adventures are exciting, it's one of my favourite time travel stories, and the developments of Jack and Ianto's relationship are lovely and well explored. In addition, the OCs are well-developed and could just as well star in a non-fannish science fiction novel. Also, it has my favourite Jack-before-he-was-Jack name - it actually works and sounds like a real name and suits him.

Title: Evening Classes

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly challenge of minor/guest characters, I wanted to look up Isobel Watkins fics, because Isobel is amazing and I'm currently rewatching The Invasion, and I found this treasure. It's a touching, wonderful story where post-S4 Donna is attending evening school and becomes friends with Isobel Watkins, now a well-known photographer who is teaching in that school. I love this exploration of what they both could become after their canon, and it feels healing and comforting in the face of certain elements of canon.

This rec happens to fulfill both the minor/guest characters and the 10th Doctor era monthly themes, as well as my female-centric challenge claim.
