Title: The Worst Doctor Who Story Ever
Creator:  Astrid
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size:  608
Creator's Summary: For April Fools Day, I present something I wrote last year as a parody of all the bad Doctor Who fics (well, bad fics in general). I'm very sorry about this, I really am.

Characters/Pairings:  Ace McShane, Adric, Leela, Mel Bush, Peri Brown, Romana II, The Doctor (8th), The Doctor (Other), The Master (Other), The Rani, The Silurians, The Valeyard, The Yeti
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Yes, that's the actual title.   It's a parody of bad fic:  the funniest and most accurate parody I think I've ever read.   I honestly don't know how much I can say here without spoiling it.  But we all have come across fic like this at some point.

Title: an evening coming in across the fields
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] phantomlistener
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 1788 words
Creator's Summary: “Hi,” Tegan says, mock-formal. “My name’s Tegan Jovanka and I was possessed by a god from beyond the dawn of time. Twice.” Mel laughs, the tension suddenly gone. “Melanie Bush,” she returns, “and I was possessed by the god of death. Just once, mind you.” ~ Mel, after Empire of Death
Characters/Pairings: Melanie Bush, Tegan Jovanka
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for s1/14/whatever; emotional trauma from possession.

Reasons for reccing: I came across this tonight and it filled a need I hadn't realised I had for some sort of fic dealing with Mel, post "The Empire of Death". It's well-drawn, beautifully written, and a lovely look at these two opposites bonding over unwanted shared experiences.

Title: The Only Water in the Desert
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] BerylGrey
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 4184 words
Creator's Summary: He didn't need to know. Nobody needed to know. She was Melanie Bush now, not Melody Pond.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor/Mel Bush, Seventh Doctor/Mel Bush, River Song (as Mel)
Warnings/Notes:

Reasons for reccing: For 1986 and the introduction of Melanie Bush, here's one of my favorite very recent pieces of Mel-and-Six-fic. Based on a longstanding crack theory ('Melanie Bush' could not sound more like 'Melody Pond had to come up with an alias quickly' if you tried!), this is both really moving and makes a surprising amount of continuity sense. It's a great exploration of Mel's character that thereby adds new layers to River's.

Also for the Multi-Era theme!

Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 700 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor’s aversion to carrots stemmed from…
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Melanie Bush
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: For 2000, the year of Evelyn's first appearance. This is a fun fic with cake and carrots, and the Sixth Doctor being his typical self.

Title: The Enterprise and the Tardis

Rating: gen
Creator's Summary: That would be a really cool crossover wouldn't it?
Characters/Pairings: Tardis, original Enterprise
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: A really lovely Inktober drawing of both these iconic ships crossing paths in the depths of space.

Title: Trouble
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] cosmic_llin
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 112 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor is exasperated.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Melanie Bush, guests
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: Because every canon needs one of these. Also fits the "invasion" square on my Bingo card, just ask the Klingons. ;-)

Title: Keeping Up
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] cosmic_llin
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 251 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor fears he may have bitten off more he can chew with his new companion.
Characters/Pairings: Julian Bashir, the Doctor
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: This made me smile, because the idea of Julian's enthusiasm and energy being too much for even the Doctor to keep up with? Hee. Yes. Since it doesn't specify which regeneration this is, it's kind of amusing to imagine different versions here, too.

Title: Like Nobody's Watching
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Andraste
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5568 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor has been dancing for a long time.
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Barabara Wright/Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, Polly Wright, Ben Jackson, Second Doctor, John Benton, Third Doctor, Romana I, Fourth Doctor, Tegan Jovanka, Vislor Turlough, Fifth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Sixth Doctor, Melanie Bush, Seventh Doctor, C'Rizz, Eighth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Beautiful, thoughtful, and heart-warming multi-era fic in which the Doctor dances with his companions across all his incarnations (up to the point when this was written). It's a light and fun read, but explores various relationships with depth, accuracy and heart, and everything comes together in deftly circular way at the end.

Title: It'll Do You Good
Creator: whatthefoucault
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 552 words
Creator's Summary: Six, Mel, and Frobisher get a workout. Mayhem ensues
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Mel Bush, Frobisher

Reasons for reccing: Mel makes Six and Frobisher do yoga. Short, sweet and funny, what more do I need to say? I've been saving this one up for whenever the Sixth Doctor era would be the monthly theme, because it delighted me so much when I read it... And almost forgot to post anything at all whole month! Other things have been eating my brain, but I didn't want to leave the Six era without a rec! (Never mind that my timestamps says it's July 1st already... It's not yet midnight in the UK!)

Title: DW Flowers (series of images)
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] Miss-Alex-Aphey)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: -
Characters/Pairings: most female companions from both the Classic and New series of Doctor Who

Reasons for reccing: This is a whole fan art series too lovely to choose just one or two in it, so I'm going to post links to several of my favourites under the cut (since you could do that when you're fulfilling a challenge!) and from them, you can click on your favourites and, if you want, you can easily access the gallery to see even more of them. These are quite exquisite drawings of most of the female companions in Doctor Who, pictured with larger-than-life flowers chosen to match their personality, appearance, colours etc. While combining female characters with flowers may sound very traditional, the characters possess all the vividness, strength and energy they have in the series - the flowers seem to represent vitality and growth rather than any excessive fragility or some such. Many of the pictures are my favourite fan arts ever of those characters.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim before the seasonal challenge ends!

Lots of lovely pictures of lovely female characters )

Title: Five Times Jenny Met One of the Doctor's Companions
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Netgirl_y2k
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 1151 words
Creator's Summary: Jenny saves some civilisations, does a lot of running and meets some of the Doctor's old friends.
Characters/Pairings: Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter), Mel Bush, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana II, Tegan Jovanka, Mickey Smith.

Reasons for reccing: I love the character of Jenny even if The Doctor's Daughter has its flaws as an episode, and I love cross-era stories where different companions and guest stars meet one another, and this was a lovely example of both. The story has a great, cheerful, fresh Jenny voice, and the various companions she meets are their delightful selves. I also love their reactions to her background, and extra points for Romana II teaching her how to Time-Lord in a more thought-out fashion.

Both for my "female-centric" challenge claim, and also fitting the monthly theme of Tenth Doctor era / guest characters.

Title:
Gearbox (The Won't Miss a Piece Remix)
Creator: neveralarch
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 6103
Creator's Summary: "How does the TARDIS work?” asks Ace.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Barbara Wright, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Erimem, Hex Schofield, Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, Mel Bush, Romana II, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (1st), The Doctor (2nd), The Doctor (3rd), The Doctor (4th), The Doctor (5th), The Doctor (6th), The Doctor (7th)
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: The TARDIS is a ridiculous, wonderful place to live in, because -  at least according to this fic - it only works according to how its inhabitants think it should work. And I think that's wonderful. This fic is a gorgeous fluffy romp through the inner workings of the TARDIS, with flashback cameos from just about every Classic era Doctor. And of course, it's framed by the storylet of Ace adjusting to life in the TARDIS, and some lovely flashes of insight into her relationship with the Doctor. Plus, the humor in it is wonderful, and so is the characterization - there are some really good lines in there.
