Warnings/Notes: Major Character Death, Homophobia, Abusive Father, Islamaphobia, Bullying. Yaz is bullied and later hurt by her father, these are prominent elements of the fic but they are used to support the main relationship which is the friendship between Clara and Yaz, so it's never too vivid or graphic in its focus or depiction.

Reasons for reccing: I really enjoy seeing old and new companions interact with each other and this fic does a great job of that by portraying a very complex and deep relationship between Yaz and Clara. Clara is a mentor and teacher to Yaz and it's lovely to see that side of Clara. This fic takes place over several years and the author did a great job of creating this narrative and having Yaz grow up over time, from when she was a young girl all the way to when she meets the Doctor. It's a really fantastic fic.
