And, without giving anything away, there's a positively excellent moment involving the Master that made me smile.

Reasons for reccing: The interactions between these two are a delight to read throughout, as are all the details of the Master's frustration with this "backwards cesspit of a world," the concepts of magic and science - and the ironically inevitable way that the two villains are thwarted by their own natures. Two devils dancing, indeed.

Thankfully, Parish Secretary Miss June Skibblehorn has prepared the monthly newsletter as she has done every month, featuring the latest news, and a column by the Reverend Magister himself.

Reasons for reccing: If the Master posed as a village vicar, surely he must have been responsible for the church newsletter, yes? It begins with the parish secretary's cheerful but eventually unsettled descriptions of her first meeting with the Reverend Magister, and then becomes everything what you'd expect from the Master: a smooth opening, some passive-aggressive and increasingly snide remarks buried in the text, and of course, a vitally important command all the parishioners must obey. I expect those of you who grew up with church newsletters will find this even funnier than I did, and I laughed all the way through it.
