Title: Rose Tyler
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] mustamirri
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: It was definitely the time to draw a "new who" companion for my Doctor Who companions project!

Rose was a shop assistant in London and the companion of the Ninth and Tenth Doctor.

Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor
Notes: Belongs to this artist's series of companions (mostly Classic Who ones besides this one) where different companions are drawn in somewhat Art Nouveau/Mucha style drawings with some motifs of their story and their Doctor(s) drawn to the upper left and right corners, etc. There are links to many of the others in the description of this picture, make sure to check out some of the others as well!

Reasons for reccing: I love this fan art series, and I really like this portrait of Rose, as she looks as young as she is in the beginning of her story, has a definite Series 1 feel (which is my favourite era for Rose), and captures the freshness, curiosity, and youth of Rose and that "ordinary girl" air. Also, though I've looked at this drawing many times, I only now spotted the Bad Wolf motif - see if you find it, too!

Reasons for reccing: I adore the blue-grey-yellow colour scheme of this and all three parts of the drawing - Rose, the Tardis, and the ghostlike wolf - are just incredibly precise and beautiful to look at.

Title: Bad Wolf is Bad

Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: none
Reasons for reccing: This wolf is almost like a nightmare version, giant compared to Rose, with glowing red eyes and long claws, holding her in his palm. The connection between them through the swirling vortex energy is fascinating - is she conjuring it up, directing it? The colour scheme is very different from the first one but no less striking.

Reasons for reccing: An intense and mostly black and white portrait of Rose, which makes the yellow eye all the more striking - and wolflike! There's an interesting sense of danger in it.

Rating: - (would fall under General, I guess)
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: The Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon

Reasons for reccing: A beautiful, beautiful drawing of the Second Doctor and Jamie almost kissing. The theme for this month was romance, and I'm deeply, deeply in love with Second Doctor/Jamie as a ship, so naturally I'm going to have to rec some works for that pairing (stand prepared, there will be more). Here is one of my favourite pieces of Two/Jamie fan art, by Van Donovan who's also written some lovely fics for that pairing. I utterly adore this picture - the style is so beautiful, a bit dreamy, both characters look great, and the almost-kiss position is lovely. And I think I've put in enough generally enthusiastic adjectives into one paragraph now.

Creator's Summary: n/a
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Clara

Reasons for reccing: Two kisses inspired by Hell Bent and I love how different they are! First one is set in the cloisters, a still scene set during the moment when we cut away from their conversation - all dark, shimmery colours coupled with bits of light illuminating their outlines and hands. Second one is set in the café, all monochrome light blue and much more dynamic, catching them mid-movement, Clara clutching his lapel.

Title: Gallifreyan Girl
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] khallion)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: Lots of questions about this design. It's not meant to be anyone in particular. More of an homage to the amazing cosplayers I have seen in Tardis dresses, the Tardis in human form, and the "Gibson Girl".
And sometimes, I just feel like drawing something beautiful.

Characters/Pairings: No particular character, as explained above, rather a young woman in a TARDIS dress - I guess you can say she's a personification of the TARDIS!. She does look rather like a Gibson Girl version of TARDIS-as-Idris.

Reasons for reccing: Another gorgeous piece of art I happened to found when browsing today and just had to share. It's just so incredibly beautiful, and a lovely hommage to the TARDIS! Love colour scheme and the Gallifreyan lettering motifs, too.

Creator's Summary: Amy Pond, as Alphonse Mucha would have painted her. And homage to Dr. Who, and Mucha’s “Topaz” painting.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond

Reasons for reccing: It combines Art Nouveau with Doctor Who, do I need to explain more? Also, it's gorgeous, and Amy is a great character for Art Nouveau style art, being so vivid, and it captures her well. I found this today and thought I must share it here.

Title: DW Flowers (series of images)
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] Miss-Alex-Aphey)
Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: -
Characters/Pairings: most female companions from both the Classic and New series of Doctor Who

Reasons for reccing: This is a whole fan art series too lovely to choose just one or two in it, so I'm going to post links to several of my favourites under the cut (since you could do that when you're fulfilling a challenge!) and from them, you can click on your favourites and, if you want, you can easily access the gallery to see even more of them. These are quite exquisite drawings of most of the female companions in Doctor Who, pictured with larger-than-life flowers chosen to match their personality, appearance, colours etc. While combining female characters with flowers may sound very traditional, the characters possess all the vividness, strength and energy they have in the series - the flowers seem to represent vitality and growth rather than any excessive fragility or some such. Many of the pictures are my favourite fan arts ever of those characters.

For my "female-centric" challenge claim before the seasonal challenge ends!

Title: Always a Song
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] Saimain
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 1100x718
Creator's Summary: A commissioned painting of the Eighth Doctor and River on a muddy battlefield, but only one of them is really there. Inspired by a scene from the heartbreaking and amazing "Dark Eyes" audio series; the quote is from the TV episode "The Husbands of River Song."
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/River Song
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Okay I admit, I'm a sucker for this pairing. Eight is my favorite Doctor and the moment he met River Song on the Big Finish audios I was enamored by them. Anyway, this piece is so lovely. It's touching and beautiful and could totally happen. The artist displays a lovely moment of comfort from River (from the data core, no doubt) to Eight. It's beautiful and sad. I love that the black and white color scheme choice here too. It definitely evokes the perfect mood for the subject matter.

auroracloud: Zoe Heriot with bright blue and pink background (Zoe Heriot)

Creator: [deviantart.com profile] nightwing1975)
Creator's Summary:
Characters/Pairings: Zoe Heriot

Reasons for reccing: A lovely drawing of Zoe in her famous sparkly catsuit. Which is very sparkly, as it should be. I love this particularly because not nearly enough artists get Zoe's face and expressions right, but this one's spot on - and thank goodness she's not drawn in that horrible 'Dominators' costume which some otherwise good artists seem to like putting her in. (Heh, sorry if you like that costume, but Zoe didn't like it herself, and she didn't choose it.) Also, her confident posture is very Zoe. I was just rewatching Invasion and thought I should rec something with Zoe for my "female-centric" challenge claim!

Title: Time Cannot Erase
Creator: Adele Lorienne
Rating: (None given, but All ages)
Word Count/Length/Size:
Creator's Summary: Before Rose and River, there was Charley. Charlotte Pollard: “the girl who never was,” for whom the Eighth Doctor would openly defy the laws of time and Time Lords and sacrifice everything to save. Though, in the end, it wasn’t enough….
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/Charley Pollard
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I stumbled over this the other day while searching for something else, and am so glad I did! It's completely gorgeous and sweet, and I love the warmth it practically glows with and the detail in the TARDIS library, not to mention the fun socks! I'm still a-flail every time I look at it again. I was meaning to do a different pairing for my Favourite Pairings challenge, but after finding this, I had to rec it.

Title: Bill and Heather

Rating: -
Word Count/Length/Size: -
Creator's Summary: Bill - and Heather.
Characters/Pairings: Bill Potts (+ implied Bill/Heather)

Reasons for reccing: Bill Potts standing in the rain, and smiling. A truly lovely piece of Bill artwork, featuring that lovely, hopeful smile of hers that fills every place with light. The artist has occasionally been employed even for official Doctor Who related things, such as some of the recent 'Women Who Lived' material, and looking at how wonderful her stuff is, I don't wonder why. (And no, you don't actually see Heather the girl in the picture, but well, she is present...) For my "female-centric" challenge claim.

Creator's Summary: quick draw
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond

Reasons for reccing: I just came across this gorgeous piece of Amy fan art today, and wanted to share it here, both just because and for my "female-centric" challenge claim. I love the vivid, blazing colours contrasting with both the tranquil snowfall on the background and on Amy's quiet, reserved, thoughtful expression. I also feel that the drawing style beautifully brings across the combination of fairy tale and fierce modernity that Amy is.

Link: https://www.deviantart.com/dameeleusys/art/Amy-under-the-snow-283261183

As a bonus, there's what is essentially a close-up of the same picture available here, also gorgeous, and the close-up makes the fiery colours seem even more vivid.

Characters/Pairings: An Ood, the Tenth Doctor

Reasons for reccing: Because I'm quite sure you all (or at least some of you?) need a Pre-Raphaelite painter Ood, I thought I'd kindly provide you one. And despite the description saying it's a sketch, it's brilliant. It kinda counts for the historical theme as well, doesn't it?

Creator's Summary: Sort of maybe commission, but mostly for fun. Doctor Who and all. (Doesn't have more of a summary than that and the title, sorry!)
Characters/Pairings: Tegan Jovanka

Reasons for reccing: An utterly gorgeous piece of art showing Tegan wearing an exquisite 18th century outfit, fabulous hat and all, looking like she's sitting for one of those portraits from the era. Love the warm colours, too, and the attention to costume detail. It kind of makes me want to write a fic to go with it.

Both for the 'historical' monthly theme and my 'female-centric' claim for the seasonal challenge. I found this a while ago and hung onto it so that all my art recs wouldn't be stacked on one week.

Reasons for reccing: What with Christmas being almost upon us, I'm just spreading a bit of Christmas cheer to all the followers of the community, along with the monthly theme of the Eighth Doctor, by reccing this funny and cute drawing of an unusually Christmassy Dalek attempting to outwit Eight (without much success).

Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is such a fantastic series of paintings. I love all the different styles - so well executed, so many great ideas and details! - and I love that Umanimo didn't just go for a chronological order here but put all the Doctors in time periods and art styles that seem like a good fit for them. Six Kandinsky Style? Cubist Eleven? Flute-playing Two on a Greek Vase? Klimt Style Eight? Graffiti Nine? All of them work beautifully and it's a joy to look at the whole series.

Reccing this for the monthly History Theme - it's kind of Art History, but it's also easy to imagine the Doctors all visiting "their" time period and being immortalized by the local artist. :-D

Title: The Doctor and Charley
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] harbek)
Rating: no rating, basically General
Creator's Summary: A quickie done while listening to one of the audio adventures with Eight and Charley. She's one of my favourite companions in only a few audios. Styling herself an Edwardian adventuress, she runs away from home and stows away on a zeppelin disguised as a male member of the crew, on her way to Singapore, then ends up travelling with the Doctor instead.

I imagine she got him to have this taken of them at some point in their travels.

(She should have much lighter hair, but, oh well. Maybe she dyed it.)

Characters/Pairings: The Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard

Reasons for reccing: I've recently started listening to the Eighth Doctor audios and utterly fell in love with Charley Pollard, and the adventures being audios, I wanted to find some fan art of her, and now have way too many tabs open of art with Charley and the Doctor. This one is an incredibly beautiful image done in the style of old-timey sepia coloured portaits, and they both look fabulous and very in character. With the image style and the period dress, it also counts for the "Historical" theme!

Characters: The Thirteenth Doctor, plus references to other Doctors

Reasons for reccing: This was mentioned by Katrina of the Verity! podcast as her weekly happy thing, and I thought it was so adorable I should share it here. While I had issues with the episode Kerblam! itself, I did love the Doctor getting the fez from her past self. So this cute drawing plays with the idea that the Doctor has made a lot of orders to the store over the centuries, in different regenerations, and finally the delivery bots could deliver her purchases... All of them. Have fun spotting who ordered what!

Rating: I guess General, no rating shown
Word Count/Length/Size: one drawing
Creator's Summary: Jamie, right around the time of Culloden - shortly before meeting the Doctor for the first time.
Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon

Reasons for reccing: Though I'm mainly a fic reader, I thought I'd get in a bit of fan art as well, after this community has inspired me to go looking for art on my favourites on DeviantArt. This is a wonderful drawing of Jamie at the time of Culloden in 1746. He's in Highland garb and prepared for battle. I love the care taken to portray his costume, Jamie himself looks just right, and his tragically-defiant expression, stance, and the tattered flags on the background all point to how the rebellion is doing at this point.

Title: Tell Me Stories and Give Me Stars
Creator: [tumblr.com profile] mogamoka
Rating: Gen
Characters/Pairings: Twelve/Missy (Doctor/Master)
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is a lovely four-part comic about the Doctor and Missy and their time in the vault (with a flashforward to the season 10 finale). There's a lot of melancholy and a bit of fragile hope, and it has a fascinating take on the passage of time and the role of memories. I like the sense that both of them have lived and known each other for a long time and that this is one special episode within that, with lots before and lots to come. I particularly like that it starts out with the Doctor narrating, telling us about Missy and her time in the vault, followed by a middle part without a narrator (but with a beautiful bit that parallels both of their "deaths" in the finale), and concludes with Missy taking over the narration and responding to it. Really love the art style, too, the simple black and white, the mix of close-ups and long shots, and the dynamic cut of the panels.
