Title: Things That Go Bump
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Liadt
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 758 words
Creator's Summary: Deep within the bowels of Kiy Uvanov’s mansion came an unearthly cry, which rattled the bones of all who heard it.
Characters/Pairings: Kiy Uvanov, Kaston Iago
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I am very fond of the rather random audio spin-off Kaldor City (a mix of characters and elements from DW's Robots of Death, Image of the Fendahl, the PDA Corpse Marker and a few escapees from Blake's 7 + a healthy dose of snark, paranoia, politics, assassinations, apocalyptic and surreal endings and killer robots) and this ficlet embraces the crack and runs with it to give us the joy of Kaldor encountering homicidal Henry Hoovers. It's just another day in the life of Firstmaster Kiy Uvanov and his assassin-for-hire Iago. With killer domestic appliances, naturally.

Title: the air that i breathe
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] seren_ccd
Rating: Not rated
Word Count/Length/Size: 1089 words
Creator's Summary: Post-ep for ‘Hide’. This is what happens next for Emma Grayling and Major Alec Palmer.
Characters/Pairings: Alec Palmer/Emma Grayling
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's a gorgeous coda for Hide, looking at Alec Palmer and Emma Grayling and what they did next (have tea, of course). I woudl happily have watched a whole spin-off series about their supernatural adventures and awkward shippiness, and while that didn't happen, this (and seren_ccd's other pre-canon fic for them) is lovely enough to help compensate for that lack. (The other is here and it's also great.)

Title: Unfinished Business
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] tree_and_leaf
Rating: Mature
Word Count/Length/Size: 1838 words
Creator's Summary: Liz has unfinished business with the Brigadier. She thought she’d accepted it would have to stay that way…
Characters/Pairings: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart/Liz Shaw
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Another one for my favourite pairings challenge. I love Brig/Liz; it's full of repression, snark and dedication to duty despite any UST. This one, though, is set after Liz's time at UNIT and gives them a chance to maybe do some resolving at last, and it's excellent.

Title: Time Cannot Erase
Creator: Adele Lorienne
Rating: (None given, but All ages)
Word Count/Length/Size:
Creator's Summary: Before Rose and River, there was Charley. Charlotte Pollard: “the girl who never was,” for whom the Eighth Doctor would openly defy the laws of time and Time Lords and sacrifice everything to save. Though, in the end, it wasn’t enough….
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/Charley Pollard
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I stumbled over this the other day while searching for something else, and am so glad I did! It's completely gorgeous and sweet, and I love the warmth it practically glows with and the detail in the TARDIS library, not to mention the fun socks! I'm still a-flail every time I look at it again. I was meaning to do a different pairing for my Favourite Pairings challenge, but after finding this, I had to rec it.

Title: Love Me (Love Me Not)
Creator: [livejournal.com profile] laughinggas13
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 962 words
Creator's Summary: N/A
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor/Charley Pollard
Warnings/Notes: None. Set between Seasons of Fear and Neverland, but not spoilery.

Reasons for reccing: This one fits both my seasonal challenge (Favourite Pairings) and the current monthly theme of Eighth Doctor era works. I've loved this ficlet for a long while and could never rec it before, as it wasn't archived to Teaspoon. It's short and simple, but captures a lot of the 'walking-on-broken-eggshells' underside to the lightness of the Eight-Charley relationship, as Charley begins to navigate the possibilities (and impossibities) of what they can be to each other.

Title: Moving Forward
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] settiai
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5020 words
Creator's Summary: Sometimes all a person can do is move forward and hope for the best.
Characters/Pairings: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart/Liz Shaw, Sergeant Benton, Third Doctor.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I love Brig/Liz as a pairing and it was really hard to narrow this down to one fic for the challenge, but this piece is gorgeously written with vivid voices, and simultaneously showcases how this ship works so well and why it might well never work at all in a way that feels very true to both Liz and the Brigadier.

Title: Adventures in Scientific Babysitting
Creator: lyricwritesprose
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 200 words
Creator's Summary: When Liz Shaw babysits, the science is going to get done right.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Kate Stewart
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Perfect double drabble of a missing scene that surely must be true - it wasn't necessarily her father who taught little Kate that science leads.

Word Count/Length/Size: 3.11
Creator's Summary: The Eighth Doctor enjoys his new regeneration.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Grace Holloway, Chang Lee.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's a wonderfully joyous look at Eight and friends. Not so much for one night only in this case, but for one brief but sunshiny day... Just perfect Eight, really.

Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 4141 words
Creator's Summary: Liz Shaw persuades the Doctor to go house hunting, with unexpected consequences.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Third Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Another for my Liz Shaw claim - this is an unusual and thoughtful piece that has Liz helping the Doctor go househunting while unconvering an unexpected side to her own nature. It provides both a sideways-type missing story as well as being a lovely look at the friendship between Liz and Three.

Title: The Man in the Brown Suit
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] nonelvis
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 4474 words
Creator's Summary: Though Liz is surrounded by men in brown tweed jackets at the Thirteenth Annual Astrophysical Society Conference, there's one man who stands out from the crowd.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw/Twelfth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: One that fits both my seasonal challenge for Liz Shaw and the current multi-era theme. The Doctor runs into an old friend, and she's just as awesome as ever. Liz gets a chance to get some things straight, argue with the patriarchy - and the Doctor brings a problem with an artichoke dip. It is a perfect mix of lovely character beats, an unexpected bit of shippiness, and ridiculous Doctor Who-ish shenanigans.

Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, Twelfth Doctor + companions.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Another multi-era vid, before the anniversary weekend and month is over! This one was made for the recent [community profile] equinox_exchange (so just a little too early for more than the briefest bit of Thirteen) and is a gorgeous, happy-making celebration of New Who. It's beautiful and surely guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Title: Just A Girl
Creator: [personal profile] odessie / [archiveofourown.org profile] odessie (Nancy Blackett)
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 3.25 mins
Creator's Summary: Underestimate the women of Doctor Who at your peril.
Characters/Pairings: All female companions up to Amy Pond.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's a wonderful, smartly-edited vid full of links and parallels that highlights the strengths of the Doctor's female companions across the first 40-odd years of the show. It's an older vid now, but it's marvellous and remains a firm favourite and is definitely worthy of the day.

Title: Farewell Elizabeth Shaw
Creator: [youtube.com profile] BabelColour
Rating: N/A
Word Count/Length/Size: 2.28
Creator's Summary: this is a personal tribute to the beautiful Caroline John who portrayed Miss Elizabeth Shaw in 'Doctor Who', who sadly passed away on 5th June 2012.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Third Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Another one for the current Seasonal Challenge! This a beautiful tribute that effectively showcases the strengths of Liz's character as a scientist in her own right. I was planning to try and find something a little less sad (this was made in the wake of Caroline John's death, so I should probably attach a tissue warning for those who need it) but it turns out the best is still the best.

Creator's Summary: A new tribute featuring all 13 Doctors showing (I hope) the more fun side of Doctor Who.
Characters/Pairings: Pretty much everyone (up to 2015)
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I love a good multi-era fanvid, and this is an excellent and action-filled celebration of the whole show (up to the point of making in 2015 - thirteen Doctors including the War Doctor, rather than Thirteen) that leaves you buzzing with the sheer joy of this wonderful 55 year old-and-counting TV show of ours.

I claimed Liz Shaw for the Character Challenge, so here is my first rec for it (& about time):

Title: Going Home
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] phantomlistener
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 8143 words
Creator's Summary: A life can't be summed in a few tiny moments, but it can, possibly, be understood. Elizabeth Shaw through the years. Crossover with the Dr Who spin-off P.R.O.B.E. but no prior knowledge of it is required.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Third Doctor, Patricia Haggard, Sarah Jane Smith, Brigadier Lethbrige-Stewart.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: This is a beautifully written look at Liz across her life, filling in backstory, post-canon and side-adventures with insight and depth. It was one of the first pieces I thought of when I claimed the character. It includes some mention of the fanmade PROBE videos, but it works just fine if you don't know them, as the author says. (I haven't seen any of them myself, so I can vouch for that). If you love Liz, you'll love this.

Characters/Pairings: Daleks
Warnings/Notes: None, save for Dalek POV.

Reasons for reccing: Just in time for a Hallowe'en, here's a thoroughly disturbing and cleverly done look inside one of those bubbling lumps of hate we call the Daleks... *gives a shiver*

Creator's Summary:"Milliways Steak House and part-time mortuary, how may we serve you today?" In which the Doctor deals with an unwanted caller and the TARDIS fam learn a few things about their fun-loving alien friend.
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Graham O'Brien, Ryan Sinclair, Yasmin Khan, The Castellan.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I've not really been reading round for much of our new TARDIS team yet, but this is a delightful, fun extra scene for them that fell across my path and I had to bring over here for everyone else to enjoy, too.

Warnings/Notes: None; some fairly quick cutting towards the end.

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly theme of "new" this is a vid that's only just been posted - although it's also (just before we embark on a new era) a gorgeous farewell to the last, with a beautifully meta look at Twelve's era and overall arc.

Word Count/Length/Size: 1545 words
Creator's Summary: Lucy gets a lot of weird requests at these kind of gigs, but it's the first time anyone's ever asked this one before. (Missing scene for "Vampires of Venice")
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Original Character
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I was sorting through some bookmarks and spotted that this never got recced on [community profile] calufrax and rushed over here to make good that omission. It answers the (obviously very important) question of how Eleven got into the cake in Vampires of Venice, and it's charming and funny, with perfect Eleven-voice, and is now absolutely what happened in my mind. Plus, it has cake. Even if it's not a real one.

Title: A Winter's Tale
Creator: [personal profile] jjpor | JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 8164 words
Creator's Summary: In the deep midwinter, frosty winds will blow, but for the Doctor and Ace it's just another day at the office. Or is it?
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane
Warnings/Notes: Brief bit of swearing.

Reasons for reccing: It's a bit unseasonal perhaps, but it was the fic I thought of immediately on seeing the prompt. Ace doesn't do Christmas, but the Doctor wants to change that, and goes about it in his usual twisty sort of way, taking her back to a certain moment in the trenches in WWI. It's just perfect in so many ways, from the characterisation of the two of them, the treatment of the historical period, and manages to be properly aww-worthy without being in the least bit treacly or sentimental. If you haven't read any of JJPOR's stuff before, you've been missing out.

Creator's Summary: Jamie has offended the TARDIS, and now he's just a little bit turned around.
Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot, the TARDIS, Second Doctor.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I love fic that explores the TARDIS, which is just what this one does and it's particularly delightful. Jamie gets lost in the TARDIS and, with some help from Zoe, they both begin to understand the nature of this very unusual time and space machine - and how to deal with her.

Title: Two Devils Dancing
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] AstroGirl ([personal profile] astrogirl)
Rating: General Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 7908
Creator's Summary: The Master finds himself stranded in the Enchanted Forest, unable to repair a vital component of his TARDIS. But if it's true that any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology, as well as vice versa, he may be able to find someone who can help him.
Characters/Pairings: The Master (Delgado), Rumplestiltskin (OUaT)
Warnings/Notes: None, other than some spoilers for S1 of OUaT.

Reasons for reccing: The interactions between these two are a delight to read throughout, as are all the details of the Master's frustration with this "backwards cesspit of a world," the concepts of magic and science - and the ironically inevitable way that the two villains are thwarted by their own natures. Two devils dancing, indeed.

Reasons for reccing: The Daleks try to invade Discworld and it goes about as well as you would expect. A true gem that's sure to leave you with a grin on your face, because there are some places that even Daleks should never try to go - but I'm so glad that, thanks to TigerKat, they did.

Rating: All ages

Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Leela, Romana I, Romana II, K9.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Wonderful, funny, and bittersweet non-linear look at Four, and the events and people that make up his incarnation. It's lovely, and the out of order nature of it is completely perfect, both in the bits that make it funnier and the bits that make it hurt the harder.

Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot (some very slight Two/Jamie/Zoe)
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe take a holiday on Venus - successfully! - and in the process learn more about themselves and each other. It's such a gorgeous fic & still probably my very favourite for these three, full of lovely alien world-building, sharp character studies, and also as funny and adorable as you would hope.

Reasons for reccing: I've been sorting through a lot of my old bookmarks lately and as soon as I re-read this one, I had to run and rec it here: it's one of those drabbles that justify the format (if it needed justifying, of course).
