Cut here for spoilers for the S12 finale )
Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor/The Master (Dhawan)
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for The Timeless Children, Crack.

Reasons for reccing: So I didn't think anything much about the finale would make me smile again in a hurry (sorry) but apparently the right bit of crack fic is always welcome. This is hugely entertaining and very them, crack notwithstanding. The revelations of the finale enable the Master and the Doctor to negotiate some of the obstacles between them at last. (By a cunning coincidence, it also fits the monthly theme here.)

Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Graham O'Brien, Thirteen/Jack Harkness, Graham O'Brien/Jack Harkness
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for S12 (ep5 Fugitive of the Judoon)

Reasons for reccing: So, I went looking to see if anyone had written Graham/Jack, following that spoilery thing, and to my delight, stumbled right into this, which was everything I wanted in a tag to that moment. Graham and Thirteen discuss Jack and their respective feelings in that direction, and it's lovely.

Nipping in before it's too late, with two recs for Graham meeting past companions, for the currently companions monthly theme.

Title: The Waiting Room
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] unwillingadventurer (pendragon)
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 1640 words.
Creator's Summary: Ian and Graham chat in a medical centre waiting room.
Characters/Pairings: Ian Chesterton, Graham O'Brien, Thirteenth Doctor.
Warnings/Notes: Mentions of character death/dealing with loss.

Reasons for reccing: This is a really sweet (or maybe bittersweet rather) look at Graham running into Ian in a hospital waiting room and finding that they have a surprising amount in common, with a bonus reunion when the Doctor turns up looking for her current companion. Guaranteed to make you go 'awww' at least a bit.

Title: Like Nobody's Watching
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Andraste
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5568 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor has been dancing for a long time.
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Barabara Wright/Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, Polly Wright, Ben Jackson, Second Doctor, John Benton, Third Doctor, Romana I, Fourth Doctor, Tegan Jovanka, Vislor Turlough, Fifth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Sixth Doctor, Melanie Bush, Seventh Doctor, C'Rizz, Eighth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Beautiful, thoughtful, and heart-warming multi-era fic in which the Doctor dances with his companions across all his incarnations (up to the point when this was written). It's a light and fun read, but explores various relationships with depth, accuracy and heart, and everything comes together in deftly circular way at the end.

Creator's Summary: I'd been interpreting these prompts strictly as "I'm going to write a fic in each of these genres", but I got really stumped on this one, until I realized I could interpret it a little more liberally, like filling it with a type of fanwork that doesn't have a plot: so instead of fic, here's a fanmix!
Characters/Pairings: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Going back to the original team TARDIS for the day (and counting for the seasonal challenge on several fronts), here's a lovely fanmix, with 13 songs charting Ian and Barbara's story across their time on the show, with excerpts and excellenlt plausible cover art. Take a trip back in time to 1963, in song!

Reasons for reccing: For both the multi-era theme and the Seasonal Challenge (the creator has somehow escaped being recced here before), this is an all-Doctors vid made for the 50th anniversary. Usuallyhats has a lovely sense of motion, with some fresh choices of clips, not to mention the inclusion of some of the wider-universe characters who get missed, and, overall, this is just really feel-good and sweet with a perfect song choice.

Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It's a delightful and witty archaeological space adventure produced many moons ago for the tardis_gen ficathon - a wonderfully entertaining romp even if you're not familiar with either Benny or Fitz. Benny is introduced here at her best, picking up her own almost-companion (who is not what she seems) while the encounter with Fitz provides the perfect anti-climax to Benny’s derring-do. It's a thoroughly entertaining quest to save (or possibly doom) a planet and well worth reading whatever era you favour.

Word Count/Length/Size: N/A
Creator's Summary: N/A
Characters/Pairings: Susan Foreman, The TARDIS
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly theme of epic - this fits it in several ways! The artist has embarked an on epic project to create a poster for every televised Doctor Who story (and some of the audios for Eight and the War Doctor), and there's an epic feel to many of the pieces, too. It was hard to choose which one to rec here as there are a whole lot I love already, done in different styles, but where better to begin than at the beginning? And this might be my favourite piece so far. I love the composition, with all the negative space and the careful use of colour. It really does manage to signify the start of a truly epic adventure, and the hope that goes with the Doctor and the TARDIS.

Creator: [tumblr.com profile] cleowho
Rating: N/A [G]
Word Count/Length/Size: 6x tumblr gifs
Creator's Summary: Thought I’d try making a few GIFs which retro-fit Frobisher into some Sixth Doctor stories.
Characters/Pairings: Frobisher, Sixth Doctor, Peri Brown.
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: For the seasonal challenge for Frobisher (although I note, as smugly as Six himself might, that it simultaneously counts for all three characters, as well as creator, fandom & medium).

Few things have made me squee as hard as this gifset did when it crossed my tumblr dash one day: Cleo Who (who does sterling work in giffing scenes from Classic Who on a daily basis) has used the wonders of modern technology to go the extra mile and insert Frobisher into some of Six's adventures. It must have taken ages to get right, and the choice of penguins used for each gif is perfect. (The bottom right one mirroring Six's attitude doubly so.) It's Frobisher for real! As my icon says: these things are better with penguins.

Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald/Jane Austen, mentions of Clara Oswald/Lady Me | Ashildr
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: For the "Date" square on my bingo card, this is a date in both senses, as Clara meets up with Jane Austen and gets the date a little wrong (although that's nothing she can't fix). It's sweet, short and lively with a side-order of entertaining timey-wimeyness, as Clara goes to Jane for advice - and flirting, of course.

Title: Full Moon, Full Moon
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] KittyEden (aka TheBigCat)
Rating: G/Teen

Creator's Summary: In which the Doctor is an ex-chemistry teacher (recently fired), Ace might possibly be a werewolf, and they both sort out things with absolutely no explosives- which is a shock to both of them. (Survival AU)
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: For the "vampires/werewolves/zombies" square on my bingo card. Kitty Eden always writes a fabulous Seven and Ace, and this is no exception, as Ace comes to the one person she trusts to help her deal with a highly improbable and frightening problem. It's both angsty and fun and so very them, despite the AU setting. Have a taster:

"You got fired because you were teaching us the proper way to create explosives?"

"It would seem so."

"You weren't doing anything wrong!" she exclaimed angrily. "You taught us the proper safety procedures and everything! You were the best teacher I ever had! They can't just kick you out like that!"

He smiled sadly at her. "It's very kind of you to say that. But I'm afraid the point is moot."

Title: Storytime: Macbeth
Creator: [personal profile] john_amend_all | [archiveofourown.org profile] JohnAmendAll
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 23,373 words
Creator's Summary: Jamie wants to read the story of Macbeth to the wee bairns in the playgroup. What could possibly go wrong?
Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon, Samantha Briggs, Tegan Jovanka, Vislor Turlough, Izzy Sinclair, Isobel Watkins, Gia Kelly, Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Heriot + many more, particularly Adric, Ninth Doctor, Mickey Smith & the Brigadier.
Warnings/Notes: None. I would warn for some innuendo, but it's Shakespeare.

Reasons for reccing: This is part of the ongoing metafic concept of This Time Round (where all the Doctor Who characters meet in a pub outside reality, complain about the writing, fanfic etc., and Nyssa tries to kill Adric a lot, for reasons) but don't worry too much about that (or follow the link for more detailed explanations) - what happens here is that a bunch of Doctor Who characters are forced to act out Macbeth by Jamie and Sam Briggs (and there's a running subplot where various other (mostly Two-era) characters are trying to stop them. Hilarity ensues.

It does not go exactly as Shakespeare intended, although it's okay - he sent a note. TTR is pretty cracky, but that is what allows for gems like this. I'm not quite sure what the highlights are (and you can bet I've missed at least half of the in-jokes) - maybe it's Tegan's annoyance at being cast as Lady Macbeth, the Witches, or Jo's drunken porter, or the various Large Hams making the most of it, but I don't think it's possible to get through it and maintain a straight face, and that's the important thing.

TTR's a bit outside of the usual run of DW fic, so it's easy to miss this, which would also be a tragedy. Have fun!

Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 1116 words.

Characters/Pairings: Frobisher, Iris Wildthyme, Jenny (Doctor's Daughter).
Warnings/Notes: Do I warn for crack?

Reasons for reccing: The last rec was a bit bleak, so have something more cheerful, because, of course, sometimes AUs can be pure crack that somehow wind up just that little too plausible for comfort, like this gem, with Six's shape-shifting penguin companion Frobisher in search of a new look that provides an unexpected origin story for a certain other major character...

Characters/Pairings: Anji Kapoor, Charley Pollard, Compassion, Faction Paradox, Fitz Kreiner, Zagreus (Eighth Doctor), Samantha Jones, Ssard, Stacy Townsend, The TARDIS
Warnings/Notes: Rocks fall, everyone dies.

Reasons for reccing: AUs are a great way to explore the places that canon didn't go, and sometimes places that canon couldn't and would never even want to go, and this is a great example. Zagreus wins in Neverland and hunts down all of Eight's companions across Big Finish, the EDAs, and comics, one by one in this dark, sharp, and poetic piece.

Title: An Unearthly Child - Jane Austen Style!
Creator: Meadowlark (newmoonstar)
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 2779
Creator's Summary: Ever wondered what it would have been like if Jane Austen had written for Doctor Who? Possibly it would have been something like this - here's the very first episode, re-written in the style of a Jane Austen novel.
Characters/Pairings: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright, Susan Foreman, First Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: It does what it says on the tin, and very well indeed. All the canon details are neatly translated into the new setting, as governess Barbara Wright's latest position proves to be a very curious one indeed. What could be the answer to the riddle of her young charge and her reclusive grandfather?

Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: I wouldn't want the 'short' theme for this month to prevent anyone reccing longer Nine fic, so I've fished up an old one but a very good one. I've been meaning to post some recs for the Second Doctor gen request for a while, so here are two now to make up for my delay, both of them fabulous historical longfic for the same TARDIS team.

Title: The Spartans
Creator: [personal profile] jjpor | JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 69,883 words
Creator's Summary: Greece, 480 BC: As the vast armies of the King of Kings prepare to battle the outnumbered defenders of the Hot Gates, the Doctor and his friends find themselves where they often find themselves at times like this – caught in the middle.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright
Warnings/Notes: Explicit violence.

Reasons for reccing: It's no secret that JJPOR is still one of my favourite Doctor Who writers and this may be my favourite of his stories. It's basically a full-on attempt at a 60s era historical, although going that little further (like a PDA or MA, save that JJPOR's stuff has far more heart and eventual happy endings) to allow for some of the historical reality. It's vividly written, excellently characterised, well-plotted out, and a real treat.

Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright, Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Talking of treats, this is also a long historical 'missing adventure' featuring the very same TARDIS team, but with a much lighter edge. It is a delightful runaround set during the Paris Exposition in 1900, complete with improbable doppelgangers and actual candy floss, and is heaps of fun. I only wish there were more of it!

Reasons for reccing: Another for my favourite pairings seasonal challenge. Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan/Sarah Jane Smith

Reasons for reccing: One for my seasonal challenge (of my favourite pairings), this is a lovely post-Aberdeen piece, in which Harry imagines dashing to Sarah's rescue. But while the reality is a little more prosaic, and Sarah doesn't need a knight in armour, it might work out to the same thing in the end. It's sweet, low-key and plausible, and still one of my favourite Sarah/Harry stories.

Reasons for reccing: A really excellent look at April and Ram, mid-season of Class, written for this year's Yuletide. It's sharply characterised, and both painful and funny, just as the show was. And there's just always something dangerous lurking about Coal Hill, isn't there?
