This is hugely entertaining and very them, crack notwithstanding. The revelations of the finale enable the Master and the Doctor to negotiate some of the obstacles between them at last. (By a cunning coincidence, it also fits the monthly theme here.)

Reasons for reccing: For both the multi-era theme and the Seasonal Challenge (the creator has somehow escaped being recced here before), this is an all-Doctors vid made for the 50th anniversary. Usuallyhats has a lovely sense of motion, with some fresh choices of clips, not to mention the inclusion of some of the wider-universe characters who get missed, and, overall, this is just really feel-good and sweet with a perfect song choice.

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly theme of epic - this fits it in several ways! The artist has embarked an on epic project to create a poster for every televised Doctor Who story (and some of the audios for Eight and the War Doctor), and there's an epic feel to many of the pieces, too. It was hard to choose which one to rec here as there are a whole lot I love already, done in different styles, but where better to begin than at the beginning? And this might be my favourite piece so far. I love the composition, with all the negative space and the careful use of colour. It really does manage to signify the start of a truly epic adventure, and the hope that goes with the Doctor and the TARDIS.

Reasons for reccing: For the "vampires/werewolves/zombies" square on my bingo card. Kitty Eden always writes a fabulous Seven and Ace, and this is no exception, as Ace comes to the one person she trusts to help her deal with a highly improbable and frightening problem. It's both angsty and fun and so very them, despite the AU setting. Have a taster:

"You got fired because you were teaching us the proper way to create explosives?"

"It would seem so."

"You weren't doing anything wrong!" she exclaimed angrily. "You taught us the proper safety procedures and everything! You were the best teacher I ever had! They can't just kick you out like that!"

He smiled sadly at her. "It's very kind of you to say that. But I'm afraid the point is moot."

Reasons for reccing: This is part of the ongoing metafic concept of This Time Round (where all the Doctor Who characters meet in a pub outside reality, complain about the writing, fanfic etc., and Nyssa tries to kill Adric a lot, for reasons) but don't worry too much about that (or follow the link for more detailed explanations) - what happens here is that a bunch of Doctor Who characters are forced to act out Macbeth by Jamie and Sam Briggs (and there's a running subplot where various other (mostly Two-era) characters are trying to stop them. Hilarity ensues.

It does not go exactly as Shakespeare intended, although it's okay - he sent a note. TTR is pretty cracky, but that is what allows for gems like this. I'm not quite sure what the highlights are (and you can bet I've missed at least half of the in-jokes) - maybe it's Tegan's annoyance at being cast as Lady Macbeth, the Witches, or Jo's drunken porter, or the various Large Hams making the most of it, but I don't think it's possible to get through it and maintain a straight face, and that's the important thing.

TTR's a bit outside of the usual run of DW fic, so it's easy to miss this, which would also be a tragedy. Have fun!

Reasons for reccing: AUs are a great way to explore the places that canon didn't go, and sometimes places that canon couldn't and would never even want to go, and this is a great example. Zagreus wins in Neverland and hunts down all of Eight's companions across Big Finish, the EDAs, and comics, one by one in this dark, sharp, and poetic piece.

Title: An Unearthly Child - Jane Austen Style!

What could be the answer to the riddle of her young charge and her reclusive grandfather?

It's set pre-Rose for the Doctor and is perfectly in character for both canons (no mean feat when one of them is Austen), and is a wonderful read, and is both humorous and bittersweet.

Reasons for reccing: Considering that Seven is my favourite, I've been completely rubbish at reccing things for that era in the monthly theme, but nipping in before it's too late, here's a gem written for the lastest round of the Chocolate Box Exchange last month.

Seven & Ace and their interactions are pitch perfect here, as the Doctor gets philosophical over what isn't a straight forward question after all, and underlying it all is the strength of their relationship. Just lovely.

But while the reality is a little more prosaic, and Sarah doesn't need a knight in armour, it might work out to the same thing in the end. It's sweet, low-key and plausible, and still one of my favourite Sarah/Harry stories.
