December Theme + Request Post

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, but in addition we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our November theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for December:


Eighth Doctor // History

For this month's theme, rec works featuring anything or anyone from the Eighth Doctor's era OR works on a theme of 'history' (historicals, studying history, changing history etc.). Works that feature both together are also welcome!


Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 31 December 2018 in your timezone. (See Info & Guidelines for posting template and instructions). Recs posted for monthly themes have their own tag with banners every six months for reccers who posted something for every theme in that time.

When making your post, make sure you add the tag "other: monthly theme". (The mods will take care of any other needed tags, as usual, but which challenge/theme a rec is for could easily be missed.)


The current Seasonal Challenge is a Choose Your Own round and is open till 7th Feb 2019.


Request List
In addition, anyone may make requests for any recs they are keen to see. (e.g. "Fourth Doctor fic, not on Teaspoon," "Cheerful Bill Potts artwork," "Leela vid," "recent Ten/Rose," etc. etc.,) If you are only interested in one medium, don't forget to specify fic/art/vid/mix/icons/podfic etc. in your request.

Ooh, I really look forward to the this month's recs, because I adore everything to do with history and never get tired of the Doctor Who + history combination; and because I've literally just in the past couple of days started listening to the Eighth Doctor audios on Big Finish and am already squeeful.

But hey, this time I have a request! I'd love to get recs of Second Doctor era gen fics, any character(s), any genre, just not shipping oriented. Because I feel like I'm finding my way around the shippy stuff quite well (Two/Jamie at least, which most of the shippy fic is), but I also really like reading gen fic about these characters, and I don't feel I've been nearly as good at finding the good gen stuff yet.

Also any recs for good Two/Jamie fic that's not on AO3 or Teaspoon would be cool. And the same for Zoe/Isobel or any other femslash involving one of the Two era companions. I've got those two archives covered, but finding stuff that's not on them is a matter of pure luck (and mostly not happening).

Yay, I was just thinking I really needed to start the ball rolling with the requests. Hopefully you will have some nice things recced for you! (I tend to read mainly gen, so I should be able to see what I've got in my bookmarks for starters).

Enjoy Eight's audios! He and Six are definitely still my fave BF Doctor runs.

I immediately thought of a gen Second Doctor era fic that I recced once on Calufrax, so question for you: is there anything special about fulfilling a request like this? Do I just make a regular rec post to the comm?

You make a regular rec post, but say it's for a request and/or use the "other: request" tag when you post it! That's great. :-)
