Autumn Challenge - Claim A Character

tardis_library's second seasonal challenge is:

Claim A Character

It's fairly simple - claim a character and rec 5-15 works featuring that character in total.

The challenge is open from now until midnight in your timezone on Thurs 6th Dec 2018, although please wait until your claim has been approved to start posting.


How It Works
1. Claim your character here. You may claim any canonical Whoniverse character you choose, however major or minor.

The only caveats are:

* you can't claim a character that someone else has already claimed (it will be first come, first served in the interests of variety), and:

* purely on a practical level (especially if you pick a minor character) make sure you feel confident you can find at least 5 works you would be happy to rec for the character you've chosen.


2. Once you start making recs, you may post each rec individually, or in smaller grouped rec lists (e.g. 3 posts of five recs) in one post. If you make 3+ recs per post, please remember to use a cut.

Any works featuring your chosen character are eligible - just make sure that they feature fairly prominently in the works you rec for the challenge.

You may include ships featuring the character or not as you please. Crossovers, fusions, or AUs featuring your character are also fine - whatever you feel showcases or explores this character in a way you think people will enjoy!


Don't forget to tag each post with "other: seasonal challenge."

3. Repeat until you have posted a minimum of 5 works. You are very welcome to post up to 15 altogether for this challenge. There will be banners for those who complete the challenge.


As an alternative option to vary things up a little for those who would prefer it - you may, once you've posted five recs for your first claim, make a second claim (and a third once you've reached ten) and post 15 recs for 3 different characters (or 10 for 2).

(Do not try to claim three characters in your initial sign up - only the first will be allocated to you, to keep things fair for those in different time zones etc. etc.)

I never thought I'd take part in one of these reccing challenges -- too much pressure -- but then you had to go and do this! I'll make the obvious (for me) request: give me Sarah Jane, please.

Well, I hoped to make each challenge a bit different, so that they would appeal to different people - so I shall take this to say that my plan may have worked! ;-)

And it is no more pressure than signing up for two weeks' reccing on calufrax, anyway. (Less, I hope!)

Your plan did indeed work!

You're right that it's not more recs than doing a stint on Calufrax, but I worry about the "theme" aspect of it. It's not as easy as just choosing a set of favorites! But with this challenge, it's, well, as easy as choosing a set of favorites. ;)

In fact, you've got me mulling over whether I want to introduce a separate, for-me only challenge: 5 recs with Classic Who Sarah, 5 with New Who Sarah, and 5 with SJA Sarah. We'll see!

And, heh, as I said, I plan to vary the challenges a bit. And even with the monthly themes, it's one straightforward one (an era of the show) or a more widely interpretable theme. I have problems with other comms that do themes, because I don't always think like that about stuff! (Though I am retagging all my bookmarks to be more helpful in that respect, and even though I have not finished, it did help a lot with the bingo. \o/) tl;dr - I try! ;-)
