Fourth entry for my bingo card: "hurt/comfort."
Title: loved the stars too fondly
Creator: JustMcShane
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 2,571
Creator's Summary: Ace is... existing. Or trying to, anyway. The Doctor helps, of course.
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane
Warnings/Notes: Swearing
Reasons for reccing: I admit, when I realized my best path to bingo lay through hurt/comfort, a genre that is not normally my favorite, I worried a bit. But then this story landed in my lap last week when I was going through the Teaspoon queue, and it grabbed me immediately with its flawless grasp of Ace's voice, and an equally flawless grasp on the fierce familial love she and Seven have for each other. It's set post-"Soldier Obscura," a Seven and Ace Big Finish audio I haven't listened to yet, but it's easy to follow along with regardless; Ace is recovering from traumatic memory loss, and blames herself for a weakness that could never be her fault. Seven listens and soothes her in a uniquely Seventh Doctor way, and honestly, I could visualize Sylvester McCoy doing exactly what JustMcShane has him doing here. A truly lovely surprise like this shouldn't be passed up, so I am happy this came my way so I can share it with the comm.
