Reasons for reccing:
Twelve is and shall always be my Doctor, and I adored Missy from the moment she appeared onscreen. This vid teases out the thread of tragic narrative that grows irresistibly during their seasons together, the slow build of Missy's redemption arc that proves her undoing - betrayed and betraying, left to die alone without the Doctor ever knowing that his friend had been coming back to stand with him, a change of hearts that fulfills the theme "without hope/without witness/without reward." There are glimpses here and there of Missy's sass, but the vid concentrates on the development of her conscience and the haunting connection between her and Twelve in their final hour.

I thought I'd seen most of the Twelve/Missy vids, but I somehow missed this one. It's gorgeous, and I love how comprehensive it is in exploring the whole of her story. The Doctor/Master relationship has long been one of my favourite aspects of DW, and Missy's arc was just devastating.

Twelve and Missy are so beautifully matched. And the vid really shows how consistent Missy's arc turned out to be; the thread is there almost from the beginning. I love watching Michelle Gomez be evil and mad as a hatter, but I also love the ambiguity of Missy's attempt to be good for the Doctor's sake. And how Moffat literalized the whole idea that she was defeated by her/himself.

I'm going to try not to overwhelm the community with Twelve/Clara recs, so I decided to start with this generous look at the rise and fall of Twelve and Missy's friendship.

I absolutely agree - I think Moffat knew roughly where he wanted to take Missy's arc from very early on. I remember him saying something like, he cast her because although she's fantastic at comedy, he also wanted to showcase her lesser-known dramatic skills, and boy did she deliver. She was incredible in s9, and it absolutely kills me that The Doctor never knew Missy chose to stand by him at the end.

It's great to see you here too! Doctor Who was probably my main fandom back on LJ, much more than HP, so the first thing I did was go searching for Doctor Who comms here. I'm glad I found this one. And by the way, there's nothing wrong with an overwhelming amount of Twelve/Clara recs! ;) ♥
