Creator's Summary: Once again, a leisure trip in the TARDIS turns into a mission to help. Yaz is on search and rescue, looking for a lost child, but soon finds she needs rescuing herself. In the meantime, Graham and Ryan grapple with the local culture, and the Doctor has to decide at what point she must let go of her hope. Five and a half hours might not be long enough this time...

Characters/Pairings: Thirteenth Doctor, Ryan, Yaz, Graham, original alien characters
Warnings/Notes: It's episode fic! I wanted to write a story they could never afford to do on TV. Spoilery warning that a major character is thought to be dead for a significant chunk of this story.

Reasons for reccing: I really loved the world building in this. The alien Jasapods were really cool and interesting characters, and relatable despite being so different from bipedal humans. The motivations and resolutions are refreshingly not black-and-white. And I loved to see Yaz connecting with an alien child so different from herself. The Doctor is in good form here; the show should take notes. The CGI would be too much for the show, but this would make a really wonderful episode. Maybe an audio drama.

This month's it's time to feature the First Doctor and anything from his era in your fanworks or you can choose works that focus on any aspect of journeys - or, as ever, both!


Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 31st January 2021 in your timezone. (See Info & Guidelines for posting template and instructions). Recs posted for monthly themes have their own tag with banners at the end of the year for reccers who posted something for at least six out of the twelve themes over the year.

When making your post, add the tag "other: monthly theme". (The mods will take care of any other needed tags, as usual, but which challenge/theme a rec is for could easily be missed.)
