Reasons for reccing: This Yuletide fic intrigued me because of the clash of tones and the outsider POV. It's told from the perspective of Sarah Lynn, a character from the show BoJack Horseman, which I didn't know anything about before reading the fic. (I subsequently read a short summary of her backstory - former child star and pop singer who wanted to become an architect and never got the chance to - and I realized that the Doctor actually saves her life here, because in the show she died of an overdose right before this story starts.) I thought it was fascinating to see Twelve and the world of Doctor Who through the eyes of this weary, cynical character, whose first thought upon hearing "Doctor" is basically "maybe I could score some vicodin" and who nonetheless still has dreams somewhere deep down, who likes to look at the stars and begins to react to the wonders the Doctor shows her outside the Tardis doors at the end. The Doctor defies her expectations and his kindness shimmers through at the edges of her POV. The Doctor looked at her with a strange, sad expression. "You know," he said thoughtfully. "Perhaps you should stay with me for a while."
