Starting the seasonal challenge on the letter O like Oswald, Clara Oswin. (Look, there are even two Os.)
Title: Then This Is His Madness
Creator:
duchessofthemoonbase
Rating: Mature
Word Count/Length/Size: 5786 words
Creator's Summary: There is more to the Portrait that hangs in the Doctor's confession dial than anyone can remember. Even him.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald (echo version), the Doctor, Clara/Doctor
Warnings/Notes: character death
Reasons for reccing: This is the story of an echo version of Clara who was born and lived (and died) on Gallifrey and who meets the Doctor there for the first time. (There's a reason he doesn't remember later.) I love how vivid the description of her life is, with some great sensual details and a clear Clara POV, and how harsh the look at Gallifreyan society and the Timelords. I also love that it feels like an AU, with its own worldbuilding (and a backstory detail for the Doctor that I don't mind this time precisely for that reason), but has so so many canon ties at the same time, especially to "Heaven Sent", adding another layer to the episode and its details, particularly to the painting of Clara, the origin of which is the frame for this fic. Just a wonderful story.
