Notes: A selkie AU

Reasons for reccing: I don't read a lot of different-universe AUs, but I make an exception for fairy tale / folklore AUs a bit more often than other types, and this one kept coming up in my searches, so I gave it a try and loved it. It's a selkie/Fae AU and a Two/Jamie romance, and this AU works a lot better than I would have expected, and everyone's Fae versions make sense and the character interactions are lovely. It probably helps that Jamie's canon background makes the Celtic folklore connection feel natural, and the Doctor as a Selkie works as an analogue for the Doctor's canon existence. Also, Two makes quite an adorable seal!

It is very romantic, so make sure you're in a mood for that when you read it - and make sure you need more than just the first part of the series! Things do get sad and angsty in parts, so be prepared for that as well.

The first two parts are longer stories that follow one another, and the third part is a collection of short scenes from before, during, and after the first two stories. They're not necessary to get the main story, but some of them are pretty delightful.

Reasons for reccing: Another for the romance theme and my beloved Two/Jamie pairing. This is a recent, quite adorable little fic where they're actually trying to be on a date, but of course things haven't gone as planned, because this is the Doctor we're talking about. Also the Doctor's ideas of a date are a bit more grandiose than your average "restaurant and candlelight" scenario. As they would be. I have a special soft spot for stories that combine the inevitable chaos and frolic and humour of life around the Doctor with some sweet romantic fluff, and this definitely fits the bill.

Reasons for reccing: A beautiful little story of Jamie discovering romantic feelings for the Doctor and acting upon them; one of my favourite stories for this ship, despite being only a few hundred words. It's one of these lovely stories that fits incredibly much into startlingly few words - the way it describes Jamie's feelings about "the future" and all the things he's found because of the Doctor, and what the Doctor means to him, they fit Jamie perfectly and says so much about him. The way in which the romance part unfolds is understated yet gorgeous, sweet and subtly emotional.

I'm glad that looking for a variety of fics to rec for my character claim led me back to this one, because I read it (probably a few times over!) when I'd first discovered Two/Jamie fanfic, but I hadn't bookmarked it, and now I found it again. *hugs fic*

Reasons for reccing: This is a totally adorable multi-era story where the concept is that a whole lot of Doctors and Companions get lost in the same corn maze and keep running into one another and interact in various ways. It's hilarious, fluffy, sweet, with occasional more serious tones. I particularly adore everything involving the members of the Fifth Doctor team, the interactions between Ace, Susan and Ian & Barbara, and the scenes with Romana, Leela and those Gallifrey folks, but everything is pretty great and/or adorable. Also, there's a Golden Retriever puppy. You can't go wrong with lots of companions and a puppy, can you?

Corn mazes would seem to be a mainly North American thing (I had to google them because they definitely don't have them over here where I live) and also would be called maize mazes in the UK, but the story is too adorable for me to mind those details.

(And no, the title doesn't refer to politics. Simply to trying to find your way out of a maze.)
