Title: Fallacy Somewhere (Or: If You Can't Steal a Coat from Gilbert and Sullivan, Then From Which 19th Century Librettists and Composers Can You Steal a Coat?)
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] dbskyler
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 3144 words
Creator's Summary: You know, I acquired that ulster from Gilbert and Sullivan. -- The First Doctor, "Edge of Destruction."
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Second Doctor, Third Doctor, Fourth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor, Eighth Doctor, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, Twelfth Doctor, Thirteenth Doctor, Susan Foreman, Jamie McCrimmon, Jo Grant, Romana II, K9, Tegan Jovanka, Nyssa of Traken, Ace McShane, Grace Holloway, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Donna Noble
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Because it's funny. It has a trending theme, which leads to the reveal of how the First Doctor ended up with that ulster. Despite it all being from Gilbert or Sullivan's point of view, you can still tell which Doctors and companions are which from what they do and how their clothing is described.

Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's clever how all the Doctors are in here, causing chaos as only they can. And amusing, with everyone's reactions to the Doctors. And the OCs - Ian and Barbara's family - are believable and interesting with their opinions on their two year disappearance and marriage.

 Title:  Master's Thesis
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] auronlu  (circular-time)
Rating: All ages
Word Count/Length/Size:42,826
Creator's Summary:  When Nyssa tries to return home with the cure to a deadly plague, the TARDIS overshoots and slips back into her past, the Doctor's future. Worse, the Master is already there, taking a sinister interest in her family. Hemmed in by potential time paradoxes, there's only one person to whom Nyssa can turn for help: her best friend Tegan.
Characters/Pairings:
Nyssa of Traken Tegan Jovanka Fifth Doctor Vislor Turlough The Master (Doctor Who) Lasarti
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing:  For my Bingo card. Box-Master. .  (Set in the older!Nyssa Big Finish audios but you don't need to have listened to them first) This is exciting and in-character for everybody. An adventure that feels like an actual episode of the series; with moments (I won't spoil here) that many fans of Nyssa have been more than likely waiting to happen.

Title: Like Nobody's Watching
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] Andraste
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5568 words
Creator's Summary: The Doctor has been dancing for a long time.
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Barabara Wright/Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, Polly Wright, Ben Jackson, Second Doctor, John Benton, Third Doctor, Romana I, Fourth Doctor, Tegan Jovanka, Vislor Turlough, Fifth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Sixth Doctor, Melanie Bush, Seventh Doctor, C'Rizz, Eighth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None.

Reasons for reccing: Beautiful, thoughtful, and heart-warming multi-era fic in which the Doctor dances with his companions across all his incarnations (up to the point when this was written). It's a light and fun read, but explores various relationships with depth, accuracy and heart, and everything comes together in deftly circular way at the end.

Creator's Summary: The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa, petting a Parasaurolophus on the head.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor, Nyssa

Reasons for reccing: Came across this a couple of days ago and bookmarked it - perfect timing for the other half of the monthly theme. Beautiful little scene where Five and Nyssa meet a dinosaur! The watercolour art and the colours are just gorgeous.

 Title:  Beauty and Folly
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] auronlu  (circular_time)
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 4210
Creator's Summary: After his lengthy incarceration and lengthier time trial on Planet Folly [Big Finish: "Doing Time"], the Doctor is more than usually relieved to be back aboard the TARDIS. Unfortunately, Nyssa has placed one more road block in his path.
Characters/Pairing: Fifth Doctor / Nyssa of Traken

Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa are definitely two of my faves and their relationship gets a lot of development in the audios. This fi is a missing scene (specifically from the audio Doing Time, but you don't have to have heard it) that fits.  The author captures their voices perfectly.

Title: There to Here
Creator: [personal profile] nym_wibbly
Rating: Teen and up
Word Count/Length/Size:
7016 words
Creator's Summary: Tegan's journey takes her to places she knew she'd never go.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Tegan, Nyssa, Turlough
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: I could never imagine this pairing, until I read this story. Then, once I had read it, the pairing made perfect sense, but only in the way they are together here. This story brings Tegan and the Doctor together, but in a way that preserves the Doctor's essential, alien otherness. This is such a great Tegan voice. She's such a loud "outside" sort of character but this quieter, thoughtful but unflinchingly honest internal voice works so beautifully. I love - in a slightly uncomfortable way - the way the Doctor is with her, the way he sounds and acts - I can hear him so clearly in the dialogue - but Tegan is what really makes this story. It's one that's stayed in my mind ever since I first read it, years ago.

Title: Tardis through the Ages
Creator: [deviantart.com profile] umanimo
Rating: Gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 11 Paintings
Creator's Summary: -
Characters/Pairings: Doctors One to Eleven, Tardis
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: This is such a fantastic series of paintings. I love all the different styles - so well executed, so many great ideas and details! - and I love that Umanimo didn't just go for a chronological order here but put all the Doctors in time periods and art styles that seem like a good fit for them. Six Kandinsky Style? Cubist Eleven? Flute-playing Two on a Greek Vase? Klimt Style Eight? Graffiti Nine? All of them work beautifully and it's a joy to look at the whole series.

Reccing this for the monthly History Theme - it's kind of Art History, but it's also easy to imagine the Doctors all visiting "their" time period and being immortalized by the local artist. :-D

This one's for the rec bingo (here's the card!) column four, row four prompt 'Frames/framing device/frame-up'

Title:
Gearbox (The Won't Miss a Piece Remix)
Creator: neveralarch
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 6103
Creator's Summary: "How does the TARDIS work?” asks Ace.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Barbara Wright, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Erimem, Hex Schofield, Ian Chesterton, Jamie McCrimmon, Mel Bush, Romana II, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (1st), The Doctor (2nd), The Doctor (3rd), The Doctor (4th), The Doctor (5th), The Doctor (6th), The Doctor (7th)
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: The TARDIS is a ridiculous, wonderful place to live in, because -  at least according to this fic - it only works according to how its inhabitants think it should work. And I think that's wonderful. This fic is a gorgeous fluffy romp through the inner workings of the TARDIS, with flashback cameos from just about every Classic era Doctor. And of course, it's framed by the storylet of Ace adjusting to life in the TARDIS, and some lovely flashes of insight into her relationship with the Doctor. Plus, the humor in it is wonderful, and so is the characterization - there are some really good lines in there.

Today's rec bingo (card here!) fills the fifth row, fifth column prompt 'cake'.

Creator: Memory Dragon
Rating: All Ages
Word Count/Length/Size: 4223 words
Creator's Summary: After leaving Tegan again, the Doctor sets off to collect his companions and tries to forget the whole thing ever happened. The TARDIS has a different idea.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, implied Tegan/Five
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for the BFA "The Gathering."

Reasons for reccing: As soon as I saw this prompt on my rec bingo card, I knew I had to rec an Evelyn story. The question, of course, was, which one should I rec? After all, I have never met an Evelyn fic I did not adore. After a good fifteen minutes of browsing my bookmarks, I remembered this lovely story. It's a wonderful soft moment between a Doctor that does not know Evelyn yet, and Evelyn herself, who (characteristically) is not taking any of his nonsense, no matter which incarnation he's in.

Despite the author's claims to the otherwise, their Five voice is really quite spot-on, as is Evelyn's. It's such a lovely, magical fic, full of chocolate and warmth and hugs and it just makes me really very happy. We all need a friend who's willing to make chocolate cake for us in our lives, don't we? I know I do.

Title: Escape

Author:
[archiveofourown.org profile] viridian5

Rating: Explicit

Word Count: 3895

Author's Summary: No matter how hard he tries, Turlough can't get away.

Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Vislor Turlough

Warnings: Heavily implied past abuse, especially sexual abuse.

Reasons for reccing: This is probably my favorite Doctor Who fic in existence, for a variety of reasons. First, Turlough is written exceptionally well. Turlough's past is touched on in-depth, and as a person with PTSD, it's the most accurate depiction of trauma in fan work that I've ever read. Secondly, it shows a gentle relationship between Turlough and the Doctor, which is refreshing. It's just an overall well written fic; I love it, and i want others to know about it too.
