Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 4539 words
Creator's Summary: The Roaring Twenties. Chicago. The Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River cross paths with Captain Jack at Al Capone's birthday party — shenanigans ensue.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song, Jack Harkness
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's a fun plot that gradually reveals itself. And it's fun to see Jack meet Eleven and his companions and how he reacts to them (flirts, obviously) and how they react back. River and Jack are particularly fun, trying to figure each other out.

Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 1772 words
Creator's Summary: A dead Time Lady who is really a human and a dead Time Lord who is really a popsicle meet for the first time (again) in the blackness between worlds...
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald/Hallan (Gallifrey), the Doctor
Warnings/Notes: splinter-typical character death; minor Gallifrey spoilers

Reasons for reccing:

Well, if that ship tag hasn't got you intrigued, I don't know what to say. An in-depth knowledge of Gallifrey canon isn't required for this, though--it's more about the idea of Clara's Time Lady splinter, the impact she has on the timelines, and the circular possibility of her life reaching forward to affect original-Clara and the Doctor by way of poor Hallan. It's melancholy but also hopeful. And genuinely not cracky, just a bit... unlikely.

This qualifies for the Claim a Character seasonal challenge (Clara).

Word Count/Length/Size: 26,037 words
Creator's Summary: In the weeks after his concussion, Adrian Smith of the Coal Hill English department becomes certain of two things: First, he has been in love with his colleague Clara Oswald for as long as he can remember. And second, Clara is most definitely having a secret affair with John Smith, Coal Hill’s Scottish caretaker.
Characters/Pairings: Eleven/Clara, Twelve/Clara, Martha, Osgood
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I followed this as a WIP and it was a wonderful ride! It's a really fun twist on the chameleon arch trope, and in addition to the shippiness (which is very sweet, especially if you're into ironically complicated one-sided pining), there's a surprising amount of action and a lot of really fun teamwork with Clara, Martha, and Osgood. What's the point of time travel if you can't get into love triangles with your future self and introduce your most awesome friends to each other??

This counts for the Claim a Character monthly challenge--I claimed Clara.

Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Eleventh Doctor, Original Characters
Warnings/Notes: Mental manipulation, psychological horror, references to past abuse, canon-typical minor character death.
Reasons for reccing: Ace is all grown up and is undoubtedly the hero of this story. I love how she takes charge and deals with all of the dangers and misunderstandings along the way. The Eleventh Doctor is also perfectly characterized, and has a lot of interesting similarities and differences to the Doctor Ace knows.

This is my second rec for the "Claim a Character" challenge.

Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Because it's funny. It has a trending theme, which leads to the reveal of how the First Doctor ended up with that ulster. Despite it all being from Gilbert or Sullivan's point of view, you can still tell which Doctors and companions are which from what they do and how their clothing is described.

Creator's Summary: The Doctor recalls the Corsair
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, The Corsair
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: This rec goes for The Corsair for my Fandom Surprise character list. What a gorgeous story this is. Through his reminiscing of his old friend, we see all of the facets of the Eleventh Doctor: the way memories are ever present even if he's not paying attention, how he deflects emotions even when he knows he shouldn't, his telling the whimsy of a bedtime fairy tale to Amy that covers the dark pain and grief of the past.

She sits down beside him and tilts her head towards the snake-tattooed box in his hands. The Doctor found it in his pocket not too long after he shooed Amy and Rory off to bed. Well, found isn't really the right word; remembered it was in his pocket is more like it. Like Amy's presence in the control room, he always knew it was there, but wasn't really paying attention to it.

Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] primsong
Rating: General
Word Count/Length/Size: 6192 words
Creator's Summary: There are vampire giraffes at the London Zoo. The Doctor really ought to do something about that, seeing as he's been there before.
Characters/Pairings: Rani Chandra, Evelyn Smythe, Frobisher, Sarah Jane Smith, Jamie McCrimmon, Martha Jones, Ace McShane, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor, Second Doctor, Fourth Doctor, The Meddling Monk, Eleventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Because it's delightfully silly. It's about vampire giraffes, includes Frobisher in the penguin enclosure in the zoo and Ace unable to remember his species name properly. The Sixth Doctor being his imperious self and Evelyn having to keep him in check. And a whole lot of characters and silliness.

Title: Fun in the Thirties

Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 3:27 minutes
Creator's Summary: For three years, the Angel Detective Agency has been busy, keeping New York and the world safe, fighting crimes and extra-terrestrial activities. With the help of her faithful Ms. Oswald and the plucky Doctor, Melody Malone embarks on a last journey that will lead her to face her most enduring fear.
A fake trailer for the Melody Malone movie.

Characters/Pairings: River Song, Eleventh Doctor, Clara Oswald (it's tagged as both River/Eleven and River/Clara, and while there's a quick suggestive shot for the latter, I think it can also be viewed as gen), Amy and Rory cameos
Warnings/Notes: Quoting the author's notes, the video contains fast cuts, blinking lights, blood, mummies, smoking.

Reasons for reccing: A fake film noir trailer which focuses on River's "Melody Malone" character from "The Angels of Manhattan". It's a fun and clever mix of elements, with made-up title cards (which contain some familiar names), old trailer music, audio from both the show and the Melody Malone audiobook, and some additional video footage from non-DW sources.

Creator's Summary: "For the true recluse, /blissful as a loner, standing by as they watch the world turn /them down, like pulled out stitches /and the skeletons of stars." // Because I love Pond and Doktah. It was inspired by another piece of art with similar poses, unfortunately I can't find the piece again. And of course, the infamous crack in the fabric of time makes another appearance! I wanted it to sort of look like a children's drawing--- like a blocky, liney, pokey, uneven look. Hm.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I love this Eleven and Amy drawing - the hug, the way we only see their backs, and particularly the style of this piece, almost like a collage, the figures drawn in blocky and bold lines, translucent in places, surrounded by constellations of stars and galaxies, Amy's hair shining like it's a sun or a nebula itself.

Title: The Hitchhiker's Guide to Doctor Who // Spoof Trailer
Creator: ImmortalSparrow
Rating: None given
Word Count/Length/Size: 2:34
Creator's Summary: So our challenge for Round 2 of the Born To Vid Contest was: "Make me laugh" .... aaand for that I chose to do a sort of parody of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trailer, using Doctor Who footage.
Characters/Pairings: Rory, Eleventh Doctor and a lot of other characters from the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor's eras
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Because it's so clever and fun. The Hitchhiker's film trailer is in the form of the Book telling you what a trailer is and what sort of things happen. But in this video, the clips are all from Doctor Who, cleverly fitted to the Book's description. And in some cases it keeps the original trailer's sound which fits really well with the clips. It's also fun - the video makes me want to watch Doctor Who.

Title: Five Times the Doctor Got in the Way of Captain Janeway (and One Time They Got Along Just Fine)
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] thisbluespirit
Rating: gen
Word Count/Length/Size: 5260 words
Creator's Summary: Captain Janeway doesn't think much of time travellers and higher beings who turn up on board her ship. The Doctor doesn't take much notice of prime directives. It's a tea vs. coffee thing.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, First Doctor, Vicki Pallister, Third Doctor, Jo Grant, Ninth Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Peri Brown, Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard, Kathryn Janeway, Chakotay, Tuvok, Tom Paris
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A brilliant and well written crossover that makes both canons feel like they fit together seamlessly. The voices and interactions are spot-on, not just for Janeway and several versions of the Doctor, whose scenes go from serious to funny and back, but also for all the small appearances by companions and Voyager crew members. There's a lot of humour and great timing, and I really like its little meta aspect when it lets Janeway and the Doctor talk about interfering in other peoples' business and travel options.

Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: If the Eleventh Doctor was going to have a threesome this is how it would go. And who he would ask for advice afterwards. The Doctor and Rory are perfectly in character here and I can picture it from the dialogue, with the Doctor being overly excitable and Rory not really wanting to know what he got up with his daughter.

Characters/Pairings: Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth Doctor, all their companions until 2015, lots of monsters, Simm!Master, Missy
Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: I guess reccing a vid for this theme is kind of obvious, but I really appreciate how well the editing uses the rhythm and musical structure of the song. (I also had to watch it again to be absolutely sure that they hadn't snuck in a bit of the Gallifrey theme at the end there, but no, the high notes of the string part just reminded me of it. Still works, though.) It's a great overview vid, covering all eras of New Who (until 2015 when it was made) and a lot of different aspects of the show. It's also a great monster vid: It makes good use of a lot of creepy visuals and big scale space shots, with many "Doctor and companion running" moments, only to turn that around and take a look at the Doctor possibly becoming a monster/the one to run from himself. Saving him from that: his companions.

Warnings/Notes: none

Reasons for reccing: A unique DW vid in terms of song choice and POV, which takes its inspiration and main focus from "Asylum of the Daleks", but also includes moments of all the other New Who Dalek appearances for a thematic through-line. I love how dynamic the editing is, the different sections of the vid - all the Dalek POV shots, Oswin's entry, the use of the dance sequence, and particularly the twist about two thirds in that I don't want to spoil. It's a vid about the relationship between Daleks and Humans, with the Doctor almost on the sidelines, and at the same time it's a great Oswin/echo!Clara vid. Really cool.

Creator's Summary: A letter from Jo Jones to her husband Cliff. The writing is big and almost illegible (except for the places where it is illegible). It's been folded several times and fit into an envelope that's almost too small for it. The flap was secured with a piece of duct tape with ducks on it and the envelope is liberally covered in stamps of various sizes and denominations. On the back of the envelope is written: "P.S. Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant/Cliff Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, Eleventh Doctor
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: It's a lovely look at Jo and Cliff's relationship and how it is now, after they've been married for years and don't get to spend much time together. It's also a lovely look at Jo. What she writes in her letter, and how she writes it and what she writes it on is typical of Jo

Reasons for reccing: For the monthly theme - mostly the fusion half, but it also has quite an interesting manifestation of the Tardis! This tells Amelia's life from before meeting the Doctor to the end of the fifth season, with a daemon who, unlike anyone else's, just won't settle on a form. I love how this uses the daemon concept to give us a look at Amy's feelings, her struggle with growing up and finding out who she is. Title: Eleven and Rose | What the Heart Wants
Creator: [youtube.com profile] pinkperel
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 4:39 minutes
Creator's Summary: Alright, so this is completely alternate universe. Here's the basic storyline, but I think it mostly is self-explanatory:

--Rose calls the Eleventh Doctor and talks about how unfair she thinks it is to be abandoned in the parallel universe. (In this you can either assume Ten-Two doesn't exist or that he has died or left Rose.  He doesn't appear in this video, so you can imagine whatever scenario you wish). One day a Tardis materializes inside of the Eleveth [sic] Doctor’s Tardis. This is Rose in the Tardis she grew from the coral the Tenth Doctor left her.  They travel together and are having many adventures until River Song shows up. (For people who may wonder why Amy and Rory are no longer a part of the video, I imagine this took place during the time that the Pond’s were only traveling with the Doctor part-time). Rose finds out that the Doctor is married.  She is extremely upset and the Doctor asks if she is going to leave him, but she assures him that she never will. After this their relationship heats up more, and they get much more intimate. They continue with their adventures, and I left the video on a happy note :)--
Characters/Pairing: Eleventh Doctor/Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: N/A

Reasons for reccing: It’s just a lovely vid that tells a unique story about the
Eleventh Doctor and Rose reuniting and having adventures together. The editing is really clever in the way it manages to tell a new story using unrelated footage.

Creator's Summary: Idk guys I started this a long time ago and gave up with it and then tried to continue it after DOTD, and apparently I finished it?? But then I got a new laptop and forgot it even existed until now. Characters/Pairing: Eleventh Doctor/Rose Tyler
Warnings/Notes: N/A

Reasons for reccing: This is an incredibly eerie fanvid that has this very heartbreaking and sinister tone. Rose is practically a phantom, or perhaps a shade, in this vid as we see her haunt Eleven and as he grieves he becomes angry and hurt. I’d almost call this vid a horror because its clever use of music and editing create a really mesmerizing and eerie vid.

Creator: [youtube.com profile] Dawnofthedusk
Rating: G
Word Count/Length/Size: 1:30 minutes
Creator's Summary: I've wanted to do a video like this since series 5 finished and I thought about using the 'ring' dialogue from 5x12 but then the Christmas special came along and Kazran's challenge to the Doctor was PERFECT.

Basically, this takes place after the Christmas special -- the Doctor decides to break the rules and visit his own timeline. Amy and Rory are off somewhere as part of their honeymoon let's say. So Eleven goes to the 'days' that he wishes he could relive with his beloved Rose. The ones he feels are the most important in their short time together. In the end he knows that he cannot meddle in the timeline but he watches (and remembers) those moments he'll never forget and knows that he'll never let go of them or his love for Rose.

Title: First Responders
Author: PlumOolong
Characters: Eleven, Rory, Amy
Summary: Amy and Rory's vacation weekend with the Doctor takes a turn as the TARDIS whisks them away to answer a distress call. They find a disabled cargo ship, its cheery AI, and its pilot who is screaming in pain from no obvious source. Rory must use his nursing skills to keep the pilot alive, Amy must work on her own to fix the ship and the Doctor must rely on the power of his mind to get to the alien entity at the bottom of the mystery--if he can do it without breaking the TARDIS or himself.

Reason for Reccing: The summary above definitely hits the plot points but the execution is really well done. It's like a lost episode between Asylum of the Daleks and Angels Take Manhattan, with visual world-building, imaginative and well-rounded OCs, spot-on dialogue and pace and storytelling, and understands how to put characters in situations that let both their vulnerability and strength come through, while understatedly pointing out how well this TARDIS team complements and relies on each other. Just a gem all around for this era.
