Title: Selkie Song (series)
Creator:
eggling
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Word Count/Length/Size: 51,191 for the whole series, 3 works
Creator's Summary: (Don't have a summary for a whole series, so here's the summary for the first part:) "I remember there was always music. Everywhere we went, the selkie songs echoed through the water and on the beaches, sometimes for days afterwards, like they'd been caught on the kelp and the stones."
The people of the sea can seldom stay with those they love, but their songs always remain.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon. Also Polly Wright, Ben Jackson, Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Heriot, Isobel Watkins. Ben/Polly and Zoe/Isobel as background pairings.
Notes: A selkie AU
Reasons for reccing: I don't read a lot of different-universe AUs, but I make an exception for fairy tale / folklore AUs a bit more often than other types, and this one kept coming up in my searches, so I gave it a try and loved it. It's a selkie/Fae AU and a Two/Jamie romance, and this AU works a lot better than I would have expected, and everyone's Fae versions make sense and the character interactions are lovely. It probably helps that Jamie's canon background makes the Celtic folklore connection feel natural, and the Doctor as a Selkie works as an analogue for the Doctor's canon existence. Also, Two makes quite an adorable seal!
It is very romantic, so make sure you're in a mood for that when you read it - and make sure you need more than just the first part of the series! Things do get sad and angsty in parts, so be prepared for that as well.
The first two parts are longer stories that follow one another, and the third part is a collection of short scenes from before, during, and after the first two stories. They're not necessary to get the main story, but some of them are pretty delightful.
