Title: The Angels Begin
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] LilyMJFae
Rating: Teen and up
Word Count/Length/Size: 1594
Creator's Summary: What Sally had seen the angels before the angels episode? What if she was the reason they began?
Characters/Pairings: Sally Sparrow, Luna Lovegood, Remus Lupin, Albus Dumbledore
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: Continuing my recs for the seasonal challenge with "Companions that Never Were" - this time Sally Sparrow - and a different explanation for the origin of the Weeping Angels. It's a Harry Potter crossover, and starts a few years before Blink.

Title: basil and cleopatra
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] jontinf
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 13,887
Creator's Summary: Clara and the Doctor if they'd never stopped running.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara Oswald
Warnings/Notes: The author tags for animal death, but it's very glancing.

Reasons for reccing: Firstly, I adore this author's style. Jontinf reproduces the comic-duo spark and swerve of Twelve and Clara's bark and banter and their sheer pleasure in egging each other on, quick-witted, sharp-tongued, sentiment-averse, sometimes downright surreal. It's a series of scenes and moments from their fugitive existence as they run and run, evading the Time Lords, ducking the shadow of death and watching for signs that the space-time fabric is about to rip open. The writing is clever and frolicsome, a tumultuous surface over a darker current of increasing desperation. The melancholy grows. So does the abrasiveness, the heartbreak, the devotion as the two of them face the fact that Clara will never again have a pulse. The Doctor can't fix everything. There is no cure.

Not all writers can convincingly put the Doctor into a sex scene, but Jontinf takes that awkwardness and makes it simply part of how they communicate, carnal and intense and ridiculous. Also proof of yet more bad judgment, since it binds them closer to each other despite the hopelessness of their flight. In some ways, this is a tale demonstrating why the Doctor should not cling to his companions; they must always leave him in the end.
