October Theme + Request Post

Recs can be posted to this community at any time, but in addition we have monthly themes and seasonal challenges. Our September theme is now officially closed, and here is our theme for October:


Thirteenth Doctor // New

For October's theme & in honour of the new series, you can rec works featuring anything or anyone from the Thirteenth's Doctor's era OR new works, or works that feature anything relating to the prompt 'new'. Or both, of course.

Post your recs to the community in the normal way any time from now until midnight on 31 October 2018 in your timezone. (See Info & Guidelines for posting template and instructions). Recs posted for monthly themes have their own tag with banners every six months for reccers who posted something for every theme in that time.

When making your post, make sure you add the tag "other: monthly theme". (The mods will take care of any other needed tags, as usual, but which challenge/theme a rec is for could easily be missed.)


The current Seasonal Challenge is a Claim a Character round, open till 6th Dec 2018.

In addition, anyone may make requests for any recs they are keen to see. (e.g. "Fourth Doctor fic, not on Teaspoon," "Cheerful Bill Potts artwork," "Leela vid," "recent Ten/Rose," etc. etc.,) If you are only interested in one medium, don't forget to specify fic/art/vid/mix/icons/podfic etc. in your request.

Rec [Fic]: Just Another Step in Our Waltz by Nostalgia

Creator's Summary: Missy and the Doctor disagree on how to interact with the universe around them. So just the usual, then.

Reasons for reccing: One commenter called this a slice of life fic and I guess for the Doctor and Missy, it is one indeed. Written between seasons eight and nine, it beautifully captures all the complexities of their characters and their relationship at that point. I love the dialogue, which is surprising and spot-on, funny and touching. And I really love this take on Missy, the twisted, possessive affection, the disdain and casual destructiveness, the whimsy and the anger that the Doctor is uniquely able to elicit in her.
